Hey, I'm not a Christian, but I wear a St. George's medal, and his existence is in doubt. His slaying of a dragon is in even greater doubt (and yet, that's what's on the medal). But he's the patron saint of the nation(s) of my ancestors. He also (depending on your source) is a patron saint of soldiers, and one of my best friends is a soldier. Plus, one of the most popular Christian saints. Probably because of that whole "slayed a dragon" thing.
I think I like wearing the medal of someone who may just be a legend that my ancestors liked than one of someone we know actually existed more.
