Another really simple way to convert fic for your e-reader is the dotEPUB bookmarklet, which can convert to either epub or mobi formats: http://dotepub.com/ . dotEPUB does appear have a size limit to their files, but it's pretty much a one click operation and the file automatically saves to my Calibre folder.
For stuff spread over multiple pages I use either the GrabMyBooks firefox extension (http://www.grabmybooks.com/) or Read It Later as a news subscription on Calibre.
I do this for more than fic. If you're in the kind of situation where you need to be reading lots of academic articles it can be incredibly useful. Databases like Literature Online (LION) and Project MUSE often have articles available in html versions as well as pdf.
