We just got done watching Downton Abbey.

I haven't watched it yet and might give it a skip. After SIGNIFICANT DEATH in episode 5, taking that route again seemed forced. Yes, people died of terrible incurable medical conditions quite frequently and car even accidents were probably worse (no seat-belts or license requirements will do that), but to use the "happy couple has a baby, get a few minutes together, and then one of them dies" twice in one year it stops being realistic. On the other hand, how else do you write off a character in an age where divorce is uncommon and there's a higher mortality rate.

All this boils down too is Dan Stevens ruined everything. I'm not saying he had to commit to DA for the duration, but I feel he needed to eek out most of one more season to make the loss of the character more understandable.

Also, Mary and Branson should totally hook up.

You know what did happen back then though? Long postings overseas for political reasons while the family was left at home. There is NO REASON, having got an heir, he couldn't fuck off to some foreign place for a few years.
