Jun. 18th, 2006 08:07 pmOh god, I can't believe I ate that.
Okay, you have to understand that I am not particularly partial to fish/seafood and when I eat it, I like it to be standalone -- ie, not mixed into a soup or a part of a sauce (well, okay, shrimp linguini, exception) or whatever. The idea of a "fish taco" makes me feel queasy. I've never even had one. JUST THE IDEA.
So, Mum was all "Mexican food for dinner! Lucky likes Mexican!" and I went along because I don't mind her enchiladas. I was willing to put up with them being shrimp and crab enchiladas, because it would just be rice and bits of shrimp and crab, and I'm kind of okay with that, too. Plus, you know, enchiladas, it's hard to tell what ANYTHING is.
I was not prepared for Mum to get all experimental and replace the tomato sauce with a bechamel (?) sauce and use no rice and for the bechamel (??) sauce to be thin and watery. Basically it was toasted tortillas stuffed full of shrimp and canned-crab sitting in grease, and it was so disgusting.
Ugh. Grugh. What a waste of good shrimp.
I am sekritly glad I ate a hot dog at three pm.
(This is why I can only ever be a foodito and never a true foodie. Because I still get grossed out sometimes. But let's be fair, I've eaten and enjoyed haggis, foi gras, and some of the stinkiest cheese on earth. Seafood is just vaguely disgusting on a basic level.)
