Some temps, even temps who are here covering me for a couple of days, are fantastic. Some are terrible but at least harmless.

Some temps touch all my stuff. I mean, presumably all of them do, but some do it with seeming malice aforethought. SHE TOUCHED EVERYTHING. She moved my tissue box. Why would you move a tissue box? I mean, it's easy to move back, I'm not intrinsically upset about the tissue box, but I'm baffled as to why one would move it. She also didn't sort the mail, at all, ever, just piled full mail bins on top of one another behind my desk. That's five days of mail I just sorted. I did get new pants while I was gone, which is nice, but for some reason she decided my personal mail should go on the floor under my desk.

She twisted my phone cords. That's nearly impossible to do unless you have some kind of evil intent or really unfortunate compulsive tic. Again, I don't care about the cords actually being twisted, they untwist easily enough, but why would you do that? Why make life more difficult for yourself and everyone around you?

ARGH.

On a much happier note, I was just tipped me off that Pairing: Pendragon/Merlin -- which, again, did not write*, just love, because parts of it are like reading a fanfic about my own life -- has been turned into a podfic and ebook. I'm kind of super excited to see how they audiobooked that particular style of story.

* I do happen to be aware of who did write it, and I know said person is tickled pink by all this...

LOL, well, I mean, the mail under the desk was new pants arriving...

WAIT YOU GET YOUR PANTS BY MAIL ORDER???

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
...yes? Is that not usual? I mean, I know my size and these days with free shipping and all, it doesn't cost any extra to buy a bunch of clothes, try them on, and ship back whatever I don't like. Almost every clothing store I shop at is online, so unless it's something finicky like ties or a special shirt, I just have it mailed to me.

I should specify in this case I meant trousers, not underwear, though I buy underwear online as well...

You, sir, live in a place of miracles. I can assure you that if I were to order pants online, they'd either be for an elephant or a flamingo, and nowhere in-between.

Our streets are paved in gold, you know! :D

Catalogue shopping is a HUGE part of American culture, recently replaced with website shopping. I'm kind of surprised Australia isn't more into it, given the size of your country and the relative isolation of a good deal of its residents.

I actually, to my shame, have a bookmark file on my work computer of my favourite places to buy clothes, along with a second file of clothes I'd like to eventually buy.

I love online shopping! My husband is a super unusual size (most store don't carry his dress shirt or pants size) and we can easily order all his clothes online ad return the stuff he doesn't like or doesn't fit.

You couldn't catalogue/online shop easily from Australian websites because every Australian clothing shop has a different interpretation of sizes.

Now that I have been to America & know my US size, I have shipped over some clothes from there (from a few vintage-style websites) and they have fitted perfectly.

Online ordering works rather better for men than women. I've ordered clothes for my husband - who cannot be trusted not to order the knee-length shorts in patchwork Madras, pleated, with the side elastic, no matter how clearly I explain to him that though they may look comfortable those shorts are 80% off for a reason - online for years with great success, but have given up ordering for myself mostly because as you say they're either for an elephant or a flamingo.

I know how a few companies' sizes run well enough to order from them; Land's End is pretty consistent on its tops, and I know that size and model number if I want Levis.

Other than that? Elephant or flamingo time. XD

It took me long enough to realise that you meant trousers rather than underwear for it to be a really interesting thought process.
