Some temps, even temps who are here covering me for a couple of days, are fantastic. Some are terrible but at least harmless.

Some temps touch all my stuff. I mean, presumably all of them do, but some do it with seeming malice aforethought. SHE TOUCHED EVERYTHING. She moved my tissue box. Why would you move a tissue box? I mean, it's easy to move back, I'm not intrinsically upset about the tissue box, but I'm baffled as to why one would move it. She also didn't sort the mail, at all, ever, just piled full mail bins on top of one another behind my desk. That's five days of mail I just sorted. I did get new pants while I was gone, which is nice, but for some reason she decided my personal mail should go on the floor under my desk.

She twisted my phone cords. That's nearly impossible to do unless you have some kind of evil intent or really unfortunate compulsive tic. Again, I don't care about the cords actually being twisted, they untwist easily enough, but why would you do that? Why make life more difficult for yourself and everyone around you?

ARGH.

On a much happier note, I was just tipped me off that Pairing: Pendragon/Merlin -- which, again, did not write*, just love, because parts of it are like reading a fanfic about my own life -- has been turned into a podfic and ebook. I'm kind of super excited to see how they audiobooked that particular style of story.

* I do happen to be aware of who did write it, and I know said person is tickled pink by all this...

Do you think the mail under the desk was punishment for the old pants?

LOL, well, I mean, the mail under the desk was new pants arriving...

I am a legal sec. freelancer these days as you know, and one of the BIGGEST rules in the freelancing world--at least mine--is to leave EVERYTHING exactly where it was, how it was, etc. This desk I am working now--I have been there off and on a month, and will be back. I do move the computer to an angle (so no one can see my monitor--heh) and do other things but I keep a list of where everything was, how it was, so when the regular person comes back there is no hint of my presence, other than happy bosses. :)

And...am listening to said podfic now. *beams* That is all. LOL.

I used to HATE people who twisted phone cords. It drove me mad.

In Other News, allow me to link you to something that cropped up (possibly) while you were away - an AWESOME Origami Nazgul!

I couldn't figure out how people twisted them so badly, until I watched someone else do it. If you pick up the phone with your right hand, prop it on your right shoulder, but then take it with your left hand (because now you're holding a pen or whatever) to put it back on the cradle, it gives the cord one twist.

So, it happens over time, but after about 10 phone calls where you do that, the cord is twisted.

I, obviously, do not do this. Drives me NUTS.

Did you know that there's a very similar genre fic to Pairing Pendragon/Merlin now (almost! just an epilogue to go now!) for BBC Sherlock? I was reading it last night RIGHT BEFORE the ebook/Podfic popped up and promptly had to go read that one again. If I could draw giant hearts around them both I so would.

The Theory of Narrative Causality (http://sherlockbbc-fic.livejournal.com/9100.html?thread=41684876) by anon. Random fic rec for your morning!

I've been temping for nine months now (uuuugh my life), and I will never stop being floored by how stupid and incompetent 90% of my fellow temps are. The last place I was at kept extending my stay because I was the first temp they'd had who could reliably enter ~36 sets of initials into a spreadsheet each day. I don't even know.

I really hate to slag on temps, because some of them work really hard and most of them face really challenging positions when they're filling in for someone.

BUT MY GOD.

When I temp, I do my damnedest not to move anyone's stuff. I am, however, left-handed and if I'm there for more than a day or two I try to move things like the telephone over to the left of the desk so I can work more easily. But when it's time for me to go, I put things back where they were.

Also, I will look through the supply drawers at your station. I have to in order to know where things are. I never disturb your personal stuff and frankly if I come across personal stuff by accident I close the drawer immediately. Unless it's books. I look at what you're reading and I AM JUDGING YOU.

I think one or two of them have been converted at some point, but I honestly wouldn't know which ones. Unfortunately the short answer is: no. :D Sorry. It's not that I have anything against them, I just don't have the means to do it and I'm not that interested in putting my fic up on any more archives.

Maybe...?

I was in high demand as a housesitter back in the day for the very reason that I left things where I'd found them and the homeowners didn't have to hunt all over the house for their belongings upon return. Also I could be trusted not to water the lawn continuously for 48 hours or just move out during a sudden cold snap and let the pipes freeze instead of figuring out how the furnace worked. But mostly it was the not-moving of stuff.

It has generally been my experience than phone cords twist themselves; twisting is in the nature of phone cords. Unless you mean 'completely enmeshed,' in which case I am with you on the WTF.
