Activities: Curtailed!
My one luxury that I really don't need but am loathe to give up is laundry service. My laundry guy picks up the bag of dirty laundry on Saturday morning and returns it on Monday morning, clean and pressed. This usually isn't a problem, except when I leave my ATM card, work ID, and CTA pass in my trouser pocket. I'm pretty proud that this is the first time it's happened in two years of laundry service, but it did happen.
I've called the laundry service (they aren't picking up on a Saturday, which only figures) and left them a message to check the grey trousers and please not wash my ID and CTA pass. I've already registered myself with the building so I shouldn't have any trouble getting in on Monday (the advantage of being the God of Building Access is that I can get in and list myself as a "lost ID" employee). I'm off now to deactivate my ATM card, just in case, but my travels for the weekend will be somewhat stunted by a lack of funds and having to pay up front for transit.
On the other hand, I still have my wallet with my credit card, other ID, and most importantly my library card in it. For real, do you know how hard it is to get a replacement CPL library card? It took me twenty minutes to get a new Social Security card last time I lost my wallet, but it took me three weeks and FOUR TRIES to get a new library card. You have to pay a cash-only fee and provide photo ID and proof of address in the form of an unopened bill from one of only a few approved sources. It took less paperwork to rent this apartment than it did to get a damn library card.
Between the sunburn, stitches, resignations, and now this, it really hasn't been my week. I'm almost afraid to go out, in case I break a limb.
