[livejournal.com profile] ysabet has named my Neato brand robot vacuum.

Its name is now MagNeato.

I KNOW, I DIED TOO.

I set him off this morning to clean the living room, and he seems to have done a passable job. He did immediately hump the ottoman, but frankly I think the trash can probably finds that a relief. The trash can never truly loved Dalek Suck, merely accepted its affections.

At any rate, the entire apartment has now been vacuumed for the first time in months, though I have been doing my best with a broom in the meantime. While MagNeato is not as good at corners as Dalek Suck was (he doesn't have the spinny corner brush, it's probably a patent issue) he certainly cleans much faster. And I've been able to program him to clean while I'm not here, which I'm sure will not go poorly at all.

One step closer to the glorious future of our robot overlords!

Oh, that's adorkable.

**happily gloating**

That name is PERFECT. Though I'm not sure about encouraging it to roam around the apartment when you're not there...at least the future under our robot overlords will be clean. Except in the corners.

You posted this and now I am caught in an endless loop of battery reviews between Roomba and Neato and my brain is all esplody. Dammit!

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2014-03-03 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Well, I can guarantee the first-gen Roombas had TOTALLY AWFUL BATTERIES, and also had awful battery interfaces...

Yeah, I have a Roomba doorstop in the basement now. :( I'd try a new battery, but I'm not paying $70 for it! Especially with nearly universal negative reviews. Then again, $70 is cheaper than a new Neato. *sigh*

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2014-03-03 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably not the battery, if you have an older model -- it's the connection through the Roomba to the battery, as I found out when I did buy a new battery :D

Hmmm. I have a 400 series. Is there a fix for the connection issue?

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2014-03-03 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that I'm aware of, but I didn't do extensive research -- mine had come cheap and got me through five years, so I felt okay putting it out to pasture. It would probably cost more for a repair, especially out of warranty, than it would to get a new vacuum of some kind.

The problem is also that you may have to buy a new battery ANYWAY. If the battery can't charge regularly, it dies.

Yes! I hoped you would pick that one, soon as I saw it.

I'm now envisioning a confrontation between MagNeato and the heir of the Lorenzo tribe while you're out.

With your luck they may well decide to conspire against you....

Oh god, a robot vacuum covered in angry warrior mice....

Off to do battle with the Dust Bunnies of Doom ;)
