I'm piggybacking on this review because i had to comment:
That Borges story is actually very short, only a few pages, and i think it's in Garden of the Forking Paths? I don't know, i read it in a book of all his fiction (which is a great deal, actually.)

though it's not the translation i read. Oh, what a glorious mindfuckery it is, and isn't it always, with Borges?

(Also, my overall review is only semicoherent and mostly goes, "BFSAEUFASs/fasdkjfhf."
My brain kept forgetting to put the right characters in (like for some reason i kept imagining the guy who's supposed to be Ian as Ross and Gareth back as Ian) but brains are fickle that way.)
