The power is still out, but Crazy Awesome Irish Super did call me at one this morning (he'd been at a wedding, apparently) to tell me to speak to Reggie, the Small Old Italian Guy on the first floor, to get the key to the breaker room. It's like a quest.

Poor Reggie is rather old and not quite all there, so this should be interesting, and also I don't really feel as if I can knock before eight in the morning. I'm pretty sure everything in my fridge has spoiled, but I suppose we shall see.

In the meantime: Exquisite Chapter Five has been posted!

And now my laptop is out of battery.

As awful an experience as this sounds (I recall my days in a 3rd floor walkup with no A/C during the summer and shudder at the memory of everything but the electricity bill) I love the Characters in your life. There are so many of them, and they are all so colorful in the retelling! Though perhaps its the monikers you hang on them :D

Also, so long as you haven't opened your fridge at all, and the perishable food is sufficiently tightly sealed, there's a chance it'll be okay. If you have a digital cooking thermometer you could take temps of food in the 'maybe' category and try to estimate how long the food's been in the danger zone of 45-140 degrees. If it's below 50-55, I'd risk it as consumable in the next 24 hours (so long as it's something like pre-cooked food) though you might do to err on the side of safety. Your freezer, alas, is probably in the throes of an impromptu defrosting. Have fun with that.

I did open the fridge once or twice, but everything looks okay in there this morning. Just have to make sure I cook the chicken today.

If you have to hunt down Special Pliers of Fortitude on your quest, or pick up a plucky sidekick on the way...I don't even know. Your life will be a choose your own adventure story.

I am crossing my fingers for you, though. I hope your food is still good.
