This is my life!

1. I have an unstoppable craving for garlic. I couldn't figure out why I wanted pizza all the time lately, and then I realised what I really wanted was garlic. I'm sure this is some kind of mineral or vitamin deficiency but I'm torn between buying garlic pills or just eating a lot of homemade garlic bread. The latter is more gastronomically satisfying. This did result in me making a huge pot of spag bol last night which was immensely delicious.

2. I keep pausing during the day, especially in the evening, and thinking "What am I supposed to be doing? I'm supposed to be doing something." And then I realise no, the book is in print, there is nothing I'm supposed to be doing. Well, I mean, there are things, but not things so important I need to drop what I'm doing and do it.

3. I don't normally read QC, but I have to admit this strip and its sequel and trequel made me lol. Also, I run hot and cold with Penny Arcade but Gabe's reindeer magnet gave me a powerful moment of nostalgia.

3a. I seriously need a haircut. I can't think with this much hair on my head.

IN CLOSING:

Sam: Two more wasps this evening. I have hermetically sealed my bathroom with duct tape. WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM.
Junie: Have you investigated the possibility of a portal to a hell dimension?
Sam: It would nicely bookend my bedroom with the door to Narnia on the other side....
Junie: I can't believe the rent on an interdimensional crossroads is so reasonable.

OH I KNOW. I'm twitching. (I don't think it'll be anything too major, though. he's too... torn between "nice" and "pussy"... for that...)

Garlic is tasty!

I guess you could put the garlic pills by for when you need the goodness of garlic but you don't necessarily want to smell of it all the time.

[identity profile] cobweb-diamond.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i suspect QC has seen a significant uptick in pageviews thanks to all the fandom folks linking through to the tree most recent comics. ;)

also you need a haircut tag. if only to track how incredibly often you think about your hair. clearly it is a Concern.

[identity profile] wellowned.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
i love your "in closing" so much right now. i know the dread wasp invasion is a bad thing. but the idea is of merit. :)

as for all of your above (excepting 3a), all true. i'm kinda angry-- i left my hard drive at home and that's completely buggered me for nano writing while at work.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I have to admit, thinking of my flat as a portal to Narnia AND the Hellmouth makes me much less anxious about the whole wasp thing...

Get a hair cut! I love the feeling you get after a good hair cut.

Roast some garlic and have it around to nibble on crackers or put in things. So easy, and the smell makes you so happy.

Ooooh good idea, and I have some garlic in the fridge...

I also have the mother of all cravings for garlic bread, but Sam? That's because I'm pregnant.

WHAT IS YOUR EXCUSE.

I'm glad I'm not the only person with a webcomic collection that is regularly checked. I think I'm up to 10. This QC plotline is going to end badly though. With getting into D&D recently we're using it as an excuse to paint miniatures of our characters so the craft-y comics on Penny Arcade recently have been eerily accurate.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think PA is really the only comic I read regularly -- well, and XKCD, but that's on my flist page and sometimes I filter it off for months because I get annoyed. :D

SAM HAS A HELLMOUTH IN HIS BATHROOM.

Some of us have long suspected this might be the case.

Get thee to Narnia, stat.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I would, but the door only goes to Narnia from the outside!

[identity profile] fiercecupcake.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This QC plotline is making me happier every day.

No idea if you even like it but...

[identity profile] yoiyami.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hummus is excellent for when I have a chocolate craving. (I don't even pretend to understand it.) I have to wonder if it is because that is the only way that I will eat garlic. Is there some sort of nutrition or taste similarity between chocolate and garlic?
I've also had fun using black beans instead of chick peas in the recipe, along with using limes instead of lemons.

Re: No idea if you even like it but...

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm;
I know that for me, I get the same kind of jaw-ache anticipation from both garlic and chocolate, especially dark chocolate.

[identity profile] firynze.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it is a subtle sign from your unconscious that the Vampire Revolution is coming and you need to prepare?

Mmmmmm, homemade garlic bread. I made garlic-onion-black pepper bread on Sunday, and it is delicious.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! WHEN THE VAMPIRES COME I WILL BE PREPARED.

[identity profile] sunlitshadow.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Junie: I can't believe the rent on an interdimensional crossroads is so reasonable.

Now you just need to come home to the TARDIS in the living room and The Doctor declaring that your wasps are really alien harbingers of a zombie apocalypse.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we have long joked that my flat is bigger on the inside...

[personal profile] allectofromlj 2010-11-03 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly you're an anti-vampire. The wasps must be there because you don't have an anti-Renfield. IT ALL FITS TOGETHER.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)

I was going to suggest toasted garlic too.

I haven't tried it yet, but read a tip that drinking milk after eating garlic helps to get rid of the aftertaste/smell. Personally I'll be trying plain yogurt first.

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone mentioned that you can keep a spray bottle of plain windex or soapy water around to knock the wasps down, then you can do whatever type of murder on them you wish with your favorite blunt instrument?
And what kind are they, anyway? Are they all black, or black & yellow striped? Paper wasps, or mud-daubers, or are they actually hornets (god I HATE those-much meaner!)?

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're paper wasps? Black and yellow and HUGE.

Jesus, dude, shouldn't your landlord should be taking care of the wasps by now? Forget Crazy Irish Super and go directly to owner. Some places this would be grounds for withholding rent.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I may not have called the super. I felt guilty calling him three times a week for pest problems. I know, stupid, but all the same...

Your apartment is clearly the Wood Between the Worlds.

I always wondered why it never appeared in the other Narnia books. Now I know; it took a hike to Chicago.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if an interdimensional portal to all realities was gonna show up somewhere, Chicago's not a bad candidate. After all, we didn't get the Olympics...

[identity profile] amberdiceless.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If a hot chick turns up in your bathroom offering to get rid of the wasps and seal the deal with a kiss, RUN.

I've been going utterly nuts trying to figure out where I'm getting these little ant-like bugs from, and this morning I finally realized they were coming up from the drain. Pour some bleach down there twice a day for a week and see what happens.

Check your walls for holes? There could be teensy holes behind furniture somewhere? Because it sounds like you've got the obvious places covered...

Have you thought about setting off a flea bomb? Believe me when I say: if it can take out an entire hive of bees it can deal with a wasps nest!

I love that strip.

I don't think Mar is lesbian/bi, though.
I just think she is haplessly unaware of subtext.

I don't think Tai is going to take advantage, either.
It's not like she doesn't know that Mar doesn't know what she's doing.

Should be interesting.

So, any particular reason you don't normally read QC?

Re: re: QC

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a guest strip a while ago in which the little robot thingy crawled up on one of the womens' pillows and raped her ear. I said on the cafe "this is why I hate guest strips, if I wanted to see someone else's freakish ear rape fantasies I'd go to their own webcomic" and someone else pointed out that the little robot thingy was pretty rapey on the whole. I realised I could do without QC on my regular reading list after that.

Sometime this week I am going to attempt the totally amazing white bean garlic spread I had at a tapas restaurant. As far as I can tell this roughly goes:

Roast a bulb of garlic
Squeeze out the part you can actually eat
Combine in a food processor with a can of canneloni beans

Just, you know, as another option. Idk if it'll work though.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-11-04 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, intriguing! Sounds a bit like poor man's hummus. Which is okay because I am poor. :D
