So, we watched the Downton Abbey Christmas Special while I was home in Texas, and I'm not quite sure when it's actually coming back on air, but for posterity I'd like to share with you my parents' predictions.

My Mum's predictions:

The Earl of Grantham will have the Turkish Ambassador posthumously investigated and finds out he was a cad, thus discrediting him and not Lady Mary.
I'd like to point out that the word cad was actually used by my mother, that's not my rephrase.

Branson will be shot during a demonstration and Sybil will come back to Downton to raise her son.
I think this one actually might be kind of likely.

Patrick will return and Lady Edith will marry him and become the mistress of Downton Abbey, allowing Matthew and Mary to move to New York and live happily ever after.

Daisy will leave Downton Abbey and move in with William's dad.

Carlysle murdered the first Mrs. Bates so that he had sole control of her story.

Lucky at this point posited the theory, in all seriousness, that O'Brien murdered the first Mrs. Bates, in order to get Bates in trouble so that Thomas could take his position.

I do not think I would place bets on these coming true.

As someone watching the first series still (episode 4 last night) I am unable to not read this despite all the HOLY FUCK SPOILERS.

I always thought O'Brien had Mrs. Bates murdered, in some misguided attempt to make up for all she shit she'd put him through and out of remorse for what she did to Cora.

Season 2 is awesome.

It's coming on PBS/Masterpiece starting this Sunday, I think.

Oh yes, I've seen S2 -- I download it :)

I didn't recognize half of the names you rattled off, so I went first to the Masterpiece Theatre page, and then ran off to IMDB and read every synopsis of every episode.
So, even though I haven't seen ANY of Season 2 yet (PBS starts this Sunday! YAY!), I now know what's going on! *happy dance!*

You can watch S1 via Netflix! It's worth it!

Oh, PBS just re-ran all of S1 in December to refresh everyone for S2! :D

And I'd download them, except we use our 3G smartphones and pda.net for our internet service at home, and I think it would take way too long.

Just saw the first episode of S2 last night (which, if they do it like they did before, is episode 1 and 2, merged together). LOVED IT.

I HOPE Branson is shot and Sybil comes back; I have never and will never forgive him for completely dismissing her vocation and desire for purpose, and also I REALLY MISS SYBIL.

Word. I don't understand the massive Branson/Sybil love I see online.

I love the idea of the return of Patrick! And Sybil as a 21st century single mom...

Oh, god, my husband and I have just EATEN UP Season Two of Downton Abbey. Then, over three days this week, we watched all of Season Two of Boardwalk Empire. CONTRAST!!!

Lucky's theory sounds like something in a bad slash fic that I do not want to read!
