Awkward Coworker: Hey Sam?
Me: *turns in chair* Yes!
Awkward Coworker: Oh, did I scare you?
Me: Uh, no?
Awkward Coworker: It's just when [mutual coworker] does that it means I've startled her. Apparently I...do that.
Me: No, I'm just, um, focused? And I like my swivel chair.
Awkward Coworker: They are convenient, I guess...

POINT OF DISCUSSION: Which one of us was more awkward just now? I can't tell.

Gotta go with Awkward Coworker for assuming yes means startled.

But you're both adorable. I like swivel chairs too.

You're both pretty awkward, but I think you win this one, mostly because I'm picturing a pretty enthusiastic "Yes!"

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2012-07-12 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to be enthusiastic! It makes people happy!

...sometimes.

Awkward? No, you were both adorable,[switches to "baby voice" used for puppies] yes, you are! Yes, you are!

Have you seen my absolutely favorite swivel chair moment, from Downton Abbey? I'm not sure if it's funny if you don't know the characters (and I don't know if you know the characters), but I've watched it at least four times now.

Oh yes. GOOD HEAVENS WHAT AM I SITTING ON.

"I'm a good sailor!"

Though it is nothing to the glory of her leaning in and asking curiously, "What is a weekend?"

Like the swivel chair scene, "What is a weekend?" had me laughing so hard that we had to pause the video.

I'm sure we could quote Violet all day, but we should probably stop, because I am only three episodes through season 2, and I risk SPOILERS!

But one parting shot: "I hate Greek drama—when everything happens offstage." Yes! Want my drama ONSTAGE, doggone it!

Have you seen the Things The Dowager Duchess Says video on YouTube? I think it only goes through S1, and it's well worth searching out. :D

Oh, that's great! Except that it does go into s2, because I haven't seen anything about nutcrackers, but I stopped the moment I realized there was something I hadn't seen.

I'll look for it again once I've finished s2.

Oh sorry! I thought it was S1 only.

If he actually got to the point where he told you what he came to talk about in the first place, then you were the more awkward one. (This is actually a plus, and is probably used as subterfuge in some spying circles).

LOL this was kind of my first thought - WAS THE INITIAL TRIGGER FOR THE AWK SUCCESSFULLY COMMUNICATED THO?

Dammit! He did get to the point eventually. :D

There was a point? I was enjoying the whole exchange so much I didn't even think to wonder why Awkward had approached you. (I sometimes speak to people simply because they are along my path. I love you and Awkward because I am probably the Awkward Coworker to one or more of my colleagues.)

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2012-07-12 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he had an awkward question which I answered awkwardly :D

You two are truly classics!

[identity profile] ysabet.livejournal.com 2012-07-12 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutual awkwardness; the score is tied for that match at 1:1. That means that you two have to fight to the death, you know.

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2012-07-13 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Or make out, I suppose. :D

Yes.
