So, you remember when I told [livejournal.com profile] snaxcident about webinars and she told her boss and all hell broke loose?

We were talking about it the other day while she cursed the name of Webinar, and I said, "I have to ask, though, are the webinars at all productive? Are they bringing in new clients or at least new contacts?"

She made many frowny faces at me but said, "Unfortunately for me they have an incredible ROI - they are generating lots of leads, especially in the states. We hired an event manager to manage our webinars because they became so popular."

This means I literally talked a job into existence. I have created employment for someone! Let's hold onto that magic.

Let's have a SAM'S CAFE JOB FAIR.

The job fair is simple!

Leave a comment about where you are and what you do and what kind of work you're looking for (use your own good common sense about how much personal info to share). If you're looking to hire, know someone who is, or have resources to share, feel free to post those too!

I'll kick it off: I don't have many general jobsearch bookmarks anymore, but if you're looking for Not For Profit Jobs, there's a place to start.

Have at it!

ETA: Comments have been locked due to spammerz. Sorry guys!

If anyone is looking for technical type positions, Westinghouse Electric Company (http://www.westinghousenuclear.com) is hiring engineers and technicians (as well as a handful of non-technical related positions; HR, accounting, etc.) Corporate headquarters are outside of Pittsburgh, but there are offices in NH, CT, SC, Chicago, San Jose, TN, and others (including international). Nuclear power is a fast-growing industry, with Westinghouse at the front of the global nuclear renaissance.

PR type stuff aside, Westinghouse is a fun place to work, and one of the few places that's hiring and not firing--and hiring people with little to no work experience, as well.

Westinghouse is also owned by Toshiba, so if even if you can manage to find a position that isn't super technical, if you have any interest in Japan you might be able to use this as leverage for a future job with international travel. (At least from my outside perspective I meet a lot of Toshiba people who are involved in Westinghouse, and vice versa.)

New York

From: [identity profile] usullusa.livejournal.com
Hello I'm Kat.

I'm in New York City, I'm a student and I'm looking for part-time work in any entry-level position.

I've got several years of administrative office experience under my belt and I can administrate the hell out of anything. I type faster than the speed of sound (okay 80wpm), I organize and schedule like no tomorrow, every computer program known to man had met its match in me, and I can juggle five phone calls at once. I've created databases and libraries out of more than one person's or office's jumbled collection.

Plus, I have experience reading queries and manuscripts, doing basic editing and feedback, know my way around a publishing contract and other basic legal paperwork, and know the current publishing market better than I know the back of my own hand.

References and resume upon request!

You can email me at kap385 (at) nyu (dot) edu

Thanks Sam for doing this.

Oh man... Please do this again in two years when I'm done university! Anyway, as a preemptive strike:

I'm halfway through a degree in social/cultural anthropology, minoring in music and Jewish studies. I have experience as a PA, in catering/sous chef work, as a library assistant, and as a canvasser for a social and political action group.

Other skills include near-fluency in French, smart-serve certification (Ontario), proficiency with Microsoft Office, super fast reading, CPR certification from the American Red Cross, proficiency in social media (facebook, blogging platforms, myspace, etc), and generally being a friendly and helpful person.

I am willing to relocate anywhere as soon as I'm done with school, though I'd be happiest staying in Toronto.

Hi, everyone, I'm Megan! In May, I finished my MA in English, with a focus on American literature. My thesis discussed narrativity in graphic novels, specifically Alan Moore's work.

I have two years of experience teaching freshman composition classes at a 4-year college. I'd love to find another teaching position, but I'm up for anything that would let me use some of the skills I picked up over the past two years--research, writing, library work, etc.

Thank goodness. I missed the last one.

Hi everyone! I'm Kat, I am moving to Stockton, California at the end of August, and I am looking for just about anything. I hold a freshly-granted Bachelor of Arts in (essentially) English with a minor in history, so my research skills are excellent. I'm competent in Excel and excellent with Word. I'm good with people, bright and chipper, and good at following directions. I also learn very fast, so I can do just about anything.

My best skill, though, is the ability to make words sit up and dance. I've already done a few stints of professional copyediting with rave reviews, as well as published my own writing. Give me an awkward piece of writing and I will give you something publishable. Which, y'know, I can do online, in case you happen to be in need of a copyeditor or a ghostwriter.

My company is in the process of relocating its headquarters to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area (the new ofifce is in Research Triangle Park), and there are a lot of openings posted. Some are highly specialized positions in the emergency managemnet arena, but there are a few more general things, too, like administrative assistants, AP specialists, etc. There are also a few software/programming kinds of positions.

There are a few jobs posted also for the DC area, and at least a couple in the Bel Air, MD area. A couple of the emergency management jobs can be done from any of our offices (MD, VA/DC, NC, LA, GA, and UT).

I don't want to post a link to the careers page, but if anyone is interested, drop me a line at slz254 at gmail dot com, and I'll be happy to send it.

Hi there!

I'm in the Boston area (Cambridge, technically) and I have a BA in math (with a minor in chemistry) and I just finished a post-bac in more math! I worked for a law firm for a little while and I've also done chemistry research. Love science, don't particularly like bench work. I did the post-bac mostly because I never took statistics in undergrad and as it turns out, I really enjoy it! It just seems to me like statistics uses math to make the world make sense.

Ideally, I'd love to do something where I can use my science background and my math skills. Realistically, I've worked in an office before and certainly can do it again. I'm pretty smart, I learn incredibly fast (particularly new computer programs and such), I can write reasonably well, and I'm told that I'm very good at breaking down technical ideas for a general audience.

Hi, I'm Beka, and my girlfriend and I are in Ithaca, NY. While I'd personally like a better job of ANY sort (I'm working a coffee shop), what I'm really looking for is any information people might have about working from home, for my girlfriend. Her health is kind of crap and doesn't allow her to get a normal entry-level on-your-feet job, we only have one car, and the nearest bus stop is almost a mile away. I'd like to get some ideas on what she can do from here just to bring in a little more money, and give her something to do. Just any ideas or leads would be useful, as there's just so much internet out there and no idea where to even begin.

That said, if anyone in the Ithaca area needs someone who's good with people (and kids) and desperately wants to do something that pays better than "coffee slave", please let me know. XD
