So, you remember when I told
snaxcident about webinars and she told her boss and all hell broke loose?
We were talking about it the other day while she cursed the name of Webinar, and I said, "I have to ask, though, are the webinars at all productive? Are they bringing in new clients or at least new contacts?"
She made many frowny faces at me but said, "Unfortunately for me they have an incredible ROI - they are generating lots of leads, especially in the states. We hired an event manager to manage our webinars because they became so popular."
This means I literally talked a job into existence. I have created employment for someone! Let's hold onto that magic.
Let's have a SAM'S CAFE JOB FAIR.
The job fair is simple!
Leave a comment about where you are and what you do and what kind of work you're looking for (use your own good common sense about how much personal info to share). If you're looking to hire, know someone who is, or have resources to share, feel free to post those too!
I'll kick it off: I don't have many general jobsearch bookmarks anymore, but if you're looking for Not For Profit Jobs, there's a place to start.
Have at it!
ETA: Comments have been locked due to spammerz. Sorry guys!

Date: 2010-07-29 09:48 pm (UTC)PR type stuff aside, Westinghouse is a fun place to work, and one of the few places that's hiring and not firing--and hiring people with little to no work experience, as well.

Date: 2010-07-29 09:57 pm (UTC)I'm in New York City, I'm a student and I'm looking for part-time work in any entry-level position.
I've got several years of administrative office experience under my belt and I can administrate the hell out of anything. I type faster than the speed of sound (okay 80wpm), I organize and schedule like no tomorrow, every computer program known to man had met its match in me, and I can juggle five phone calls at once. I've created databases and libraries out of more than one person's or office's jumbled collection.
Plus, I have experience reading queries and manuscripts, doing basic editing and feedback, know my way around a publishing contract and other basic legal paperwork, and know the current publishing market better than I know the back of my own hand.
References and resume upon request!
You can email me at kap385 (at) nyu (dot) edu
Thanks Sam for doing this.

Date: 2010-07-29 09:58 pm (UTC)I'm halfway through a degree in social/cultural anthropology, minoring in music and Jewish studies. I have experience as a PA, in catering/sous chef work, as a library assistant, and as a canvasser for a social and political action group.
Other skills include near-fluency in French, smart-serve certification (Ontario), proficiency with Microsoft Office, super fast reading, CPR certification from the American Red Cross, proficiency in social media (facebook, blogging platforms, myspace, etc), and generally being a friendly and helpful person.
I am willing to relocate anywhere as soon as I'm done with school, though I'd be happiest staying in Toronto.

Also, if anyone in the Triangle area happens to be looking for a secretary-type person or a cook/baker...

Date: 2010-07-29 10:19 pm (UTC)I have two years of experience teaching freshman composition classes at a 4-year college. I'd love to find another teaching position, but I'm up for anything that would let me use some of the skills I picked up over the past two years--research, writing, library work, etc.
I'm in Ohio right now, but I'm willing (and eager, actually) to move on, so location is not an issue. Any leads are appreciated!

Date: 2010-07-29 10:23 pm (UTC)Hi everyone! I'm Kat, I am moving to Stockton, California at the end of August, and I am looking for just about anything. I hold a freshly-granted Bachelor of Arts in (essentially) English with a minor in history, so my research skills are excellent. I'm competent in Excel and excellent with Word. I'm good with people, bright and chipper, and good at following directions. I also learn very fast, so I can do just about anything.
My best skill, though, is the ability to make words sit up and dance. I've already done a few stints of professional copyediting with rave reviews, as well as published my own writing. Give me an awkward piece of writing and I will give you something publishable. Which, y'know, I can do online, in case you happen to be in need of a copyeditor or a ghostwriter.
References and resume upon request.

I don't want to post a link to the careers page, but if anyone is interested, drop me a line at slz254 at gmail dot com, and I'll be happy to send it.

Date: 2010-07-29 10:24 pm (UTC)I'm in the Boston area (Cambridge, technically) and I have a BA in math (with a minor in chemistry) and I just finished a post-bac in more math! I worked for a law firm for a little while and I've also done chemistry research. Love science, don't particularly like bench work. I did the post-bac mostly because I never took statistics in undergrad and as it turns out, I really enjoy it! It just seems to me like statistics uses math to make the world make sense.
Ideally, I'd love to do something where I can use my science background and my math skills. Realistically, I've worked in an office before and certainly can do it again. I'm pretty smart, I learn incredibly fast (particularly new computer programs and such), I can write reasonably well, and I'm told that I'm very good at breaking down technical ideas for a general audience.

Date: 2010-07-29 10:35 pm (UTC)Next year when I've graduated I'll be looking for jobs in the NGO sector. I'd like to work for an organisation to do with women's or LGBT advocacy, as my research interests at the moment are to do with feminist philosophy and the intersection of theory and practice, so ideally I'd like to get some experience in research and policy areas. If anyone's got any suggestions for how to go down the route, I'm all ears!

Date: 2010-07-29 10:51 pm (UTC)I have a B.A. in Theatre from a liberal arts college, and I specialize in rampant competence and last-minute miracles, especially when those miracles involve Photoshop. I am incredibly good at answering questions, especially in the help desk/customer service/admissions guide kind of way. My software skills can be summed up as "give me two hours and a pdf of the manual," whether or not I've ever heard of the program before. I have the techie skills necessary to assemble a video projector, speaker system, and full lighting rig. I speak Spanish and French and have reading comprehension in Portuguese and Italian (gotta love the Romance languages). Also I can read music.

Date: 2010-07-29 10:52 pm (UTC)I'm currently in Northern California but would be willing to relocate pretty much anywhere. I'm currently working as a math tutor, so I could relocate pretty much immediately.
I've got a BA in archaeology and a MSc in Forensic Archaeology, and I'd love to do something in my field, but I'll take pretty much anything. I've worked at non-profits before in admin capacities.
I'd love a position in a museum, entry-level forensic work for a police or sheriff department, or a community college teaching position. I'm fluent in French, can read most Romance languages, can read German, and have some conversational Arabic. I can also read Egyptian hieroglyphs, although it's been a few years since anyone's requested that...

Am a fulltime college student and havent had a "real job" outside of babysitting and helping my mom with bookkeeping and filing but I am great at babysitting and nanny.
Would like something permanent that would help me save up enough money over the next few months to move to another state closer to a friend and my boyfriend.
I also play cello.
Im just THAT talented.
I'll actually take any job thats available and that will work with me being a college student.
Thanks for hosting this Sam!!!
