On my second day at work they gave me a credit card, a $200k budget to manage, and a doughnut.

Technically neither the credit card nor the budget are in my possession yet. They're in potentia for now. The doughnut is very firmly in my possession, as I have eaten it. It was part of a box of celebratory doughnuts for someone's birthday.

The department is in the throes of a reorganization, which I knew going in and am not too worried about; we're understaffed so it's not like we're firing people, just trying to spread the misery evenly amongst the remaining employees. At this point they don't quite know what to do with me because I need specific training before I'll be useful, so for now I'm just floating around getting to know everyone, creating contact sheets, handling questions as they arise.

AND MAKING AWESOME ORIGAMI.

It's an origami Rocking Horse, though admittedly I didn't do all the tiny modeling that Ronald Koh did on his original diagram (warning, PDF). Mind you, I was working with a smaller piece of paper (15cm as opposed to 25), and it's a seriously complicated fold.

I was working with tant paper for the first time too, which is a weird but positive experience. It feels like construction paper but folds like tissue paper, very crisp. I've read that this is because it uses long fibres in the production process.

ALSO PICTURED: Quiz the Owl, my hourglass, and the Eiffel Tower.
