I just emailed my advisor and told her I'm considering drag queens as a pivotal to my theory of American masking, and she wrote back and told me go for it and gave me BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS.

I love my thesis even in the throes of hating it.
So I tried the tofu recipe I said I was going to try yesterday (I wasn't up to going all gourmet on my poor little electric stove last night) and while I can take or leave the tofu, the sauce is really good. It'd be good with chicken and mushrooms. I have faux-chicken veggie chicken strips in my fridge, but I feel that replacing tofu with fake chicken is just sad.

I really wish I lived near a real supermarket. I don't need my brownies to be organic. They're BROWNIES FOR GOD'S SAKE.

But the sake I bought to make the sauce with is very tasty.

Sam: wow, every time I start to whine, the universe throws me ten good reasons not to. A guy I had classes with first year is graduating this spring and then going to prison for four months for DUI.
Em: wow.
Sam: I ran into him on the bus.
Sam: Way to not screw up your life, Sam. *pats self on back* not going to prison as a graduation gift!

The nine o'clock (and, now, ten o'clock) news just ran a story on a man who crashed a car into the freeway barrier, killing himself and the other two people in the car. I wasn't paying attention until they said the guy's name and I realised it was the guy I ran into on the bus on December eighth. They're fairly certain alcohol was involved.

I even told him. He said they took away his licence and were going to send him to prison for four months after graduation because he was under 25 and already had three DUIs, and I said to him, you have to stop doing that.

I didn't know him particularly well -- until I looked back in the logs I couldn't actually remember how I knew him at all -- but it's chilling and creepy and awful all the same. And such a wretched waste of a life. Several lives.
