Okay, #1 movie not to watch on the eve of the release of a record-breaking new novel?

In The Mouth Of Madness.

Holy christ. And just for an extra kicker of fear, dig what HBP's release did to Livejournal's mood sensors. If they start to register "homicidal mania" as What's Hot, I'm getting the fuck out of Dodge.

I've had a fill of verified spoilers now, some with undisguised glee and others with the disbelieving feeling that I've been one-two suckerpunched and never saw it coming. I got my hands on the first seven chapters tonight, and trust me, you don't want the first seven chapters unless you can have chapter eight as well.

Bed now.

Spoiler warning. I couldn't help but notice...

...that brain-eating zombies are now canon.

Well, that's nice.
Before I go to bed tonight I'd just like to observe that I'm getting a weird amount of comments on fanfic over at sam_storyteller since people have begun finishing their reading. I compare it, in a way, to people going off to have sex after a funeral -- one's got to do something to get rid of the last of the nervous tension, and it sort of reaffirms that a day ago things were....well, familiar, and now they're not.

Not that I compare HBP to a funeral, but on a microcosmic level the dynamics are the same.

I feel that way myself. There are at least three fics I want to write, but I'm not sure I'll have the actual energy to write them. And of course there are some fics that will be written over and over again by a number of authors -- common themes that will need to be explored, like the nature of the veil in OotP. I don't want to write a fic whose ideas will have been done to death, but I probably will simply by default. Ah well.

So far, a surprising number of the fics I truly care about -- the ones I loved writing -- have held up remarkably well under the new canon. Re-reading them as I get comments on them, I'm rather pleased.

Of course this could just be a sign that I am really vague when it comes to pinning down interpersonal dynamics. :D
