As a PSA, things in New Orleans are really dire, and I thought I'd share a post which contains many links to make it easy on people who would donate if they didn't want to choose between the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, one of which has many scandals in its not-too-distant past and the other of which evangelises where it works and is openly against aiding non-heterosexuals.

[info]dark_christian has done up a long list of religious and nonreligious aid organisations which do not evangelise those they assist, including Jewish and Buddhist groups. There is also a list of especially "dominionist" evangelical aid groups which you may want to avoid. Most importantly, perhaps, right now:

Houstonians, San Antonians, and those in unaffected areas of the south are encouraged to sign up, but some people are offering housing, and receiving refugees, as far away as Oregon and California.
