I was going through this past year in posts, as I tend to do at the start of each year, and I stumbled across a whole file of things labeled "to post". Many of them are controversial thoughts that I haven't the guts to post publicly because I don't like arguing with people. But there were two short essays -- more like nonfiction flopsies -- that were specifically about HP fandom, and I thought I might post those. I reserve the right not to reply to any comment, however, because *points at bit about hating arguing with people*.

These both originated in comments and I just wanted to store them somewhere concrete, so if you think you've read versions of them before, that's why.

Sam's One Thing About NCIS and Three Things About House.

1. I'm sorry, do they let fans write for NCIS now? I swear I've read the RAMPAGING FANFIC that was tonight's episode. The only thing missing was the gratuitous boxcar sex, and you know the only reason that's missing is that it's not shown on HBO.

1. There are so many things that could go here, but I'm sorry, I can't let Cuddy's MAGENTA BLOUSE
OF DOOM slide. Who dresses her? Is this an intentional choice? I'm all for the decision that her character is colourblind and fashion-dead, but could we imply that in some way which doesn't make my eyeballs melt out of my head? Now, if she hadn't worn the magenta blouse of doom I might be talking about how drastically awkward that House/Stacey kiss was, since their chemistry is < 0, but Stacey wore the blouse. Look, I just watch the show, okay?

2. I realise it was necessary for the punchline, but come on, when was the last time you ever saw someone make the monumentally bad decision to put two cups of coffee in a paper bag?

3. "That's the price of the electronic age"? THAT WAS THE MORAL? Granted, it's not their usual ham-handed beat-it-into-our-heads-ness, but I have to point out that the electronic age which almost killed Mr. I Win At Charades is also responsible for the mobile phones, airplane scheduling, MRIs, hotel reservations, and mp3 player featured in tonight's episode.

3a. Do I detect a whiff of homage to Hunter S. Thompson in Journalist Du Aphasia? If so, I think even the man himself would think it was a rather poor one, actually. Danger journalist emasculated by annoying wife-to-be. Film at eleven!
