Well, it's a little over forty two minutes, but...

( +Sam's Three Things about NCIS, since House isn't on this week. Spoilers. )

3a. "The angel of death is going through a Rube Goldberg stage" is the best line of the whole episode. And wouldn't that be an awesome Discworld fic?

Fannish university students and those going to university in the fall, you should look here and go out for a Katie O'Brien Scholarship.

http://heidi8.livejournal.com/601186.html

The Katie O'Brien scholarships are in memory of a young fanwriter who died of leukemia last year; she was active on the FA boards and wanted to be a writer. FA chose to honour her memory by founding the Katie O'Brien Scholarships, which some of you have contributed to by buying bracelets or giving donations.

There are three annual one-year scholarship awards of $500, to be used for tuition and/or books and materials: one each in the areas of Writing, Art, and Community Service. To be eligible you must be a full-time student studying towards an undergraduate or graduate degree during the 2006-07 school year. You need not be studying Writing or Art as a major or minor to be eligible.

There is some prep work involved and the due date is in April, so don't put it off. As far as I know, international applications are permitted. Links to the application and donation pages are at the bottom of Heidi's post.

I rattle the tin cup on this blog often enough that it's nice to be able to link to something that gives back; good luck, applicants.

No news from NY yet. GAH.
Scoring was a hoot tonight. We had a Jesus paper that was really just....stunning to behold, reminiscent of the woman who wrote an entire essay -- which was supposed to be about the play she went to see -- about the birth of Our Lord Jesus instead. Only this one was really focused on Jesus, wholeheartedly and in a way only possible for teenagers to be. Not that I'm disapproving, mind. I like to see devoutness as much as the next ex-pagan apathegnostic.

In other news, I wrote a whole big thing about anonymemes tonight, both the negative ones and the positive ones, but god I'm boring so let me just give you the upshot:

I do not participate in Snaps Cup, Sorting, Brutal Honesty, or that ilk of meme, either putting in my name or making comments. I don't disapprove of them; there are many and varied reasons for my nonparticipation, but I'm not even going to go into them because they're personal and boring. Just be aware that if I don't reply to one, it's not because I don't love you, it's because I am a cranky misanthrope.

I also have a firm nonparticipation policy regarding any post that ends with "If you agree with this, repost it in your journal". Because *points to bit about cranky misanthrope*.

And now for something completely different.

New National Geographic in the mail YAY. Also the Uganda Children's Fund CD came, so keep an eye peeled for mp3s in the near future. Also two netflix. Also a rejection letter, two bills, and a card from a pal in Boston whom I have been shamefully neglecting (I suck). Apparently the Post Office likes to save up all my mail and then deluge me with it, which is kind of fun, like little mini Christmases.
