I'm dubbing videos today from VHS to DVD, and first video out of the Big Box O VHS was The Mists of Avalon. I'd read the book many years ago for a course in Arthurian studies and thought it was decent enough, though not really my bag.
The film, on the other hand, appears to consist entirely of mildly unattractive people, occasionally in wigs, tepidly expressing passionate emotion. It does amusingly feature a very young Freddie Highmore as young Arthur. And it makes me miss my Arthuriana class, which was great fun -- I love romping around in the old myths and soaking up ritual I wot not of.
Then I looked in the Big Box O VHS and found the incredibly cheesy old Merlin miniseries, so it's being a very Arthurian day. Well, pseudo-Arthurian. Merlin sort of considers the myths more of a guideline than actual rules. A very loose guideline.
Very, very loose.
(also, Ouran 19 is awesome on a stick, but where oh where is the Ouran 18 sub? Nobody seems to have it!)
