I went off to Half Price Books again today to sell some books, and picked up some Stephen King for the train ride (Everything's Eventual; it took all my willpower not to buy On Writing on CD). I have to admit I also stopped at Whataburger to try their honey-butter-chicken-biscuit because I am fascinated by the bizarre things that people are doing with fried chicken these days. I'm not brave enough to try KFC's new thing, which is mashed potatoes topped with corn topped with chicken topped with cheese and gravy, but I can give a solid thumbs-down to the Whataburger chicken biscuit. No flavour, very little substance, and rather sticky. It makes me want to try making my own, because the flavour combo does intrigue me. :D

I've had to start making hourly schedules again -- my To Do list is normally just a list of stuff, but I've reached the point where if I don't tell myself when to do stuff, it doesn't get done. It's....very full. Jobhunting, packing, writing, chores, correspondence and my fandomtalk.com duties, plus the weekends are basically dead no-time days since my folks are home and I'm subject to their whims. It'll all get done, though; it always does.

Temp agencies have changed a lot in the last six years. You can't just call and set up an appointment anymore; now you have to register on their website and submit a resume. I haven't had good luck with that kind of thing, because apparently the people who read those websites think I'm basically qualified to sell insurance or work telemarketing (if only they knew). But it has to be done.

Strange how much 27 feels like 17 all over again.

Anyway. I'm only posting because I'm restless, and there's much to be done. If this were two years ago I'd have gone out for a long walk or an Adventure on the bus, but it's too hot to walk even to the bus stop. So, work.
AHAHAHAHA NO.

I just got a jury summons. My first ever, in fact. For October 8th.

Fortunately, I will not be in the state on October 8th, so I just nipped over and impaneled myself online (kinky!). Between my giving an out-of-state address and claiming (truthfully; all my documentation save driver's licence has been changed) not to be a resident living within the city limits, I got exempted.

I love how they tell you that you've been rejected from jury duty as if you've somehow proved yourself inadequate. I'm all for doing my civic duty -- in fact I think it would be really interesting to serve on a jury -- but unless I can telecommute, my civic duty will have to wait, I'm afraid.
