Well, Mum's birthday presents went over a hit and the cake is tasty, so I suppose the ultimate goal of the trip home was a success. :)

It's rather nice to have cable TV to work to, it's much more soothing than network. At least, the cable I watch is. The same can't quite be said for Bernard, but we're more or less democratic about who watches what. I've finished watching Dr. Who, the last two seasons at any rate, and while I'm missing one or two episodes I really have no interest in canonical character death, so I'm not too concerned. It's still a train wreck, but it's the sort of thing I can imagine catching up on once or twice a year, for the sheer insanity of it. I tried watching SGA on SciFi here at home, but we won't talk about how that turned out. I know, I'm a snob, I'm sorry!

Otherwise, not much to report. I'm catching up on my sleep, coddling the dog, cleaning the kitchen as required, and relaxing. :)
I asked. I asked.

Mum wanted to go to the California Pizza Kitchen for her birthday dinner, for some unknown reason. We've never eaten there, and it is a little bit short on anything that's not gourmet pizza, which none of us are huge fans of. But hey, it's her birthday, so I didn't say anything. They had a mushroom pizza, I'd survive.

When she couldn't find the actual address of the new California Pizza Kitchen at the California Pizza Kitchen website, I did ask. "It's a new shopping centre. Are you sure it's open?"

"Why else would they be advertising it at the Domain? Of course it's open!"

The Domain, which sounds like the name of some planned community of zombies from The Outer Limits, is a new mall-plus-apartment-complex located in the middle of nowhere, as are most shopping malls in Austin. It's only about half-built. As you have probably guessed by now, the California Pizza Kitchen at the Domain is not open yet. It opens Monday, in fact.

I think it is the best birthday gift of all that I did not say I Told You So.
