I had a meeting with GirlBoss this morning, which I thought was going to be about something I'd done wrong but turns out really is just a "status meeting", like she said, to make sure I'm settling in okay.

I think it says something about both the business and arts worlds that I was trained to expect any scheduled-ahead-of-time meeting to actually have a purpose where there are issues to discuss, because unless I need correcting it's assumed I'd ask for help if required and take care of my own damn self otherwise.

Anyway, very productive in terms of me not getting scolded. I live to not get scolded.

I've been idly considering running away from home for the weekend, but I'm having a hard time finding a location that combines ease of departure, speed of arrival, and the potential for anything interesting on the other end. Maybe I will buy a book instead.
Something a trifle easier than EA Robinson's technically brilliant convolutions today. :D

The relationship between the visual and literary arts is not something that receives a lot of study outside of the theatre, but I love the story of Charles Demuth painting "I Saw The Figure Five In Gold" after reading William Carlos Williams's "The Great Figure". I don't tend to enjoy free verse, but the combined words and image produce a very pleasant effect, I think.

The Great Figure
William Carlos Williams

Among the rain
and lights
I saw the figure 5
in gold
on a red
firetruck
moving tense
unheeded
to gong clangs
siren howls
and wheels rumbling
through the dark city.
Okay, can we all agree that it's weird to want to drink coffee made from beans that have passed through a civet's intestinal tract, and stop writing news stories about it? I swear this is the third one I've seen in the past two weeks, not counting the two I saw about it a year ago when it was actually news.

Can you tell I'm bored? Because I'm bored. Writing is eluding me and the Thursday skeleton crossword is beyond me and I didn't get my walk at lunch because it's raining.
