I am back at work today. My work email-box exploded, but I'm pretty proud that it still only took me an hour to get everything untangled. Also one of the upstairs people shouted at GirlTemp in my absence, which has thus earned them a lifetime of the kind of tiny annoyances that can fill the day when the departmental admin doesn't like you. Seriously, when you work in an office like this there is absolutely no reason you should ever have to shout at someone for not knowing something. Nothing that happens in this office is so vital that shouting should be involved.

And...yeah, that's about it. I have spent most of the last four days pretty inert, so there's not much going on. I did play some video games. "Flail like an asshole" seems to be a valid response to dangerous enemies even now that I'm nearly halfway through The Legend Of Zelda. I have a walkthrough, which I only consult when I've gotten bored of trying to figure out something on my own, but interestingly enough nine times in ten the walkthrough tells me to do something I tried to do and then decided was pointless.

R says the Iron Boots make Link walk like he's constipated. I suspect it's just all that horseback riding.

I'm not following the Olympics, because I find them objectionable on many different levels, not the least of which is the self-delusional notion that this event in any way contributes to a significantly greater international understanding, but I have to admit that this is a pretty awesome story. Super sekrit torch guard hero!
The act of talking bollocks whilst waving one's arms about wildly (i.e. gesticulating) is referred to as testiculation.

God bless Wikipedia.
I am home! I did get to look at apartments after all. There was one that had an AWESOME old-fashioned potbellied stove (as well as a, you know, real stove) and one that had a neat bank of windows and one that was on the same block I'm living on now. If I could like, combine the three, it would be perfect.

As it stands, the one that is on the same block is my prime choice, but the building is seriously sketchy looking from the outside. The interior's okay, but it does have access from a fire escape that I'm not sure I like -- there have been a lot of burglaries in the area. And it's a two-story walkup, which I'm not nuts about either.

So either I'm going to go for the one nearby tomorrow morning, or I'm going to spend one more night looking and then...probably go for the one nearby. It's no worse than the place I lived in when I first came to Chicago, and while it's more costly it's in a better location.

I've lived in a lot of places and I've couch-surfed like a champion and there's only ever been one place I really truly loathed, back in St. Nowhere, but I'm coming to realise that the environment in which I live is really important to me, and it's upsetting that I can't get it. R's place has spoiled me.

Still, it's only a year, and it's only a place to sleep. I'm keeping my keys to R's place and it'd be nice to be able to just run up the block and hang out.

DECISIONS. LET ME SHOW YOU MY INABILITY TO MAKE THEM.
