Dec. 21st, 2008

AHAHAHA, this morning my kitchen door onto the fire escape was frozen shut. HELLO WINTER!

Laundry: check
To do list for week: check
Cooking for week: So not check, but I so don't care
Crawling into bed to ignore the freeze outside: OH YEAH CHECK.

I spent a lot of the morning cleaning and reorganising my computer's desktop, because Dad bought me a new laptop for Christmas (!!!) and I'm going to have to transfer all the stuff off this one to the other one. Lots of deleting old files I don't need anymore, sorting "to sort" files, that kind of thing.

I also spent a significant chunk of time working on The Alum's Guide To University -- I've rewritten it for coherence, added an appendix, and I'm going to be typesetting it for a nice PDF file. If I can figure out how self-publishing works I will probably make it available as a PDF and put up hardcopies for sale about the same time.

And now, I go to eat lunch and invade the Goron Mines.
Ahem. *blows pitch pipe*

To the tune of "Older":

It's colder than it's ever been
And now it's even colder,
And now it's even colder,
And now it's even colder
It's colder than it's ever been
And now it's even colder,
And now it's colder still.

ENTROPY You bastard where's my snow?
ENTROPY...
THERE'S STILL NO STUPID SNOW!

Repeat, etc.

I've lived through two previous winters in Chicago and it's never been this cold before, I would have noticed my fingers falling off d. I have broken out the thermal underwear to wear for the trip to work tomorrow, along with my knit balaclava, my hooded shirt, and my parka. I am 99% likely to wear two sets of gloves. R texted me asking if I wanted to hang out today, and we agreed that we did indeed want to hang out, but neither of us was willing to leave home long enough to walk down the block.

How did anyone live here before modern heating was invented? Now I know why Chicago kept burning down, it was the only way to keep the place warm.
