Mar. 1st, 2009 12:24 pmWell! That's an upper-body workout, isn't it?
I scrubbed out the cast-iron dutch oven this morning. It didn't need to be stripped or anything, it was well-cared-for in its previous life, but it did have some grit in the bottom and a few rust spots on the outside. Here is what the cafe has taught me about cast iron and how to care for it, condensed for you!
( Cast Iron, Kosher Salt, and You! )
Also, and nobody warned me about this, scrubbing the pot turned my hands brown and sticky too. I scrubbed my hands with kosher salt, rinsed, scrubbed for several minutes with dish soap, rinsed, and gave my fingertips one more swipe with the salt. They're grime-free now and delightfully exfoliated! :D
Today I am cooking:
Cornish Game Hen Done! It smelled a little odd though. Not bad, just freezer-y.
Enchilada Pie (with the Cornish Game Hen) Done! Cooling on the counter.
Chicken Salad (also with the Cornish Game Hen) Did not make, due to slightly weird-smelling chicken.
Chocolate Banana Croissant Pudding OH MY GOD SO DELICIOUS
Fantail Pull-Apart Biscuits Rising!
I was going to make bread, but I have half a home-baked loaf, a loaf of store-bought, and a package of hot dog buns to eat on.
