Hey, look who finally decided they might want to post about the hacks. Hi LJ News!

There's nothing there that you haven't already got if you read my post about protecting yourself from low-tech fairly ingenious hackers, except for the very good advice to community mods that you remove all inactive moderators from the comm. And the news that they're working on Additional Solutions, which is nice.

Might be some good Q&A in comments, though.
Sometimes adorable is the only word for it.

I woke this morning to three textmessages from R, spread out over the course of an hour between 2 and 3 am.

1: Meatloaf tonight!!! Tell me what kind of meat to buy for 4 people & how much & what else. I'll do a Jewel run. Bring your computer, everyone wants to watch 30 Rock.

2: Tell me exactly what kind of meat cause I hate being confused by ground chuck and lean chuck and whatever. What kind of eggs do I need? Does size matter? (ha ha) What kind of pepper? Will black pepper work? Do we need milk?

3: I might have grocery store anxiety.

So I sent him detailed instructions for what kind of meat, eggs, pepper, and bread crumbs to buy, and then got a reply back that he fucked up and is meeting people for happy hour tonight, and do I want to do it tomorrow? Which actually works better for me anyway 'cause I can do laundry tomorrow too, and go with him to Jewel to show him how to pick out the right kind of food.

I am determined that someday this man will make meatloaf unassisted, and it will be edible.
Seriously, all the metafiction I've written and nobody ever pointed me to Nabokov's "Pale Fire" before now? What the hell, guys. :D

I just went on a spree at Amazon because I wanted a copy of Pale Fire and I've discovered that now, sometimes, the "used" books have super-saver shipping. So I managed to get:

Rendezvous with Rama (Arthur C. Clarke)
Old Man's War (John Scalzi)
Pale Fire (Vladimir Nabokov)
Blade Runner (Director's Cut)
and an eight inch Chef's Knife

All for $25 and free shipping. I feel obscurely proud. The Clarke and Scalzi were recc'd to me as augmentation for my extremely paltry SFF repertoire (consisting of Harry Harrison and Octavia Butler and...that's about it). I feel like I really should see Blade Runner after having done a a research project on the concept of The Tannhauser Gate and then written the film into The Difference Engine. Someone the other day commented on The Difference Engine and said "I assume you've read most of the media you reference" and I...had not. But I give good research, baby!

And this was the nice thing about Rodney: he got to the really important shit. If John was going to read every book ever written on the philosophy of sentient robotics, on his way to a complete mental breakdown, Rodney wasn't going to stand in his way. He was going to make a required-viewing list. Probably with annotations regarding scientific accuracy and script quality.
Jack doesn't like the new Public Awareness poster I made. He emitted a shriek of terror manly bellow of surprise when I asked him to proof it.

Can't think why.

(In all seriousness, ladies and gentlemen: Don't get hacked!)

I'm off to steer the Zezz in for landing and then it's the pub for everyone. Don't wait up. Jack and I will be engaging in a battle to the unconsciousness.

In the meantime, I've acquired a public email. I'm shocked askaboutcoffee@gmail.com wasn't taken, myself.
Any excuse to use this icon.

ROOMBA TOAD!
