Part of my duties in the day-to-day operation of Torchwood includes scanning The Internet for mentions of aliens, monsters, temporal disturbances, and that sort of thing. About half the time it's total crackpots, and most of the rest of the time it's Luke Smith's Myspace. Apparently you don't get genius without a certain lack of discretion coming along for the ride.

Once in a while we do get a legitimate hit, but ordinarily I just have to entertain myself with various webcomics and the stranger, seamier underbelly of the Internet (nothing compared to the seamy underbelly of our sofa these days). Today I decided to entertain you with some of my findings as well.

For example, we are monitoring "Sam Brown" as a possible alien/time traveler. Aside from having a suspiciously ordinary name, he appears to be fascinated with robots and robot dogs in particular. And we all know where robot dogs lead. Additionally, he appears to have met Captains Jack Harkness and John Hart.

Talking of, Hart, I think you've been holding out on us. Are you really running a boutique out of the Hub? "Pencil" case my arse, we both know what that's really used for.

Andy reminded me of the simple pleasures of a biscuit this morning. Some people just make biscuits too complicated.

Biscuits, webcomics, and aliens. It's a strange life, but it could be worse. There could be no coffee!
Time to use my superpowers...FOR GOOD!

Well, for fandom and academia, which is kind of the same thing.

[livejournal.com profile] qthelights is running a poll about fandom, for her master's thesis. Have fun, talk about yourself, help out an academic!

And, if you got the knowhow, another academic needs your help finding:

a poem -- or rather, an excerpt of a poem, only needs to be a couple of lines -- written in Welsh, that pertains to the pursuit of knowledge, or the spirit of adventure.

Medievalists, I was thinking something from the Mabinogion might do nicely, Peredur does a lot of Pursuing Knowledge, but I'm not nimble enough with the book's contents or with the language to do it up right.

I am using my roomba/can OTP icon, because everyone needs a little more robot love! :D
I came home this evening and rearranged all my furniture.

Okay, not all. I moved the clothing shelf to where the nightstand was (at the foot of the bed, I don't claim to be sane) and the nightstand to where the boxes were (or "acting nighstands" as I like to call them) and the boxes to where the bookshelf was and the bookshelf to where the Roomba lived and the Roomba over slightly.

I'm considering swapping the futon and desk positions and moving the TV so it faces the futon, which splits the room in half but does give me some space to set up a worktable. Another option is to Save Up For A Sofa and donate the futon to a thrift store before it falls apart underneath me one evening. I am also Saving Up for a couple of real chairs, because the folding chairs are basically being used as catch-alls right now.

I dream of someday owning a laundry hamper. :D
