Jun. 16th, 2009 12:34 pmMan. Everyone I know had a terrible day yesterday. HI GUYS IT'S A NEW DAY LET'S MAKE IT NOT SUCK!
Good news to start off with,
spiderine's laptop has been healed (HEALED!) and she'd like to say a thank-you to everyone who offered their help. She now has a spare from
luckyckljw that she'd like to pay forward. You can find the details and ask her about it at the link below, but essentially she's aiming to find someone who is in real, desperate need of a laptop at the moment and who will eventually be able to pass it on themselves. The Fellowship of The Travelling Laptop is born! :D
Personally, I've been spending the last two days doing a lot of exercises for my ankle and feeling rather naked, going round without the boot on. In particular I find it hard not to have a visible justification for the fact that I have to go very slowly down stairs, because down is worse than up. Still, better off than on.
I've been trying to decide what to do with it for a while now. People have asked if I'm going to auction it off, and I thought about selling it for charity, but I don't think I will. For one thing, I don't want to imply for a second that anyone should wear someone else's castoff medical device. This boot is fitted and padded for someone with my injury and my foot size. If it were to be worn by someone else it should only be as a costume piece, and wearing prosthetic boots as costume pieces is going to fuck up your stance the next day, lemme tell you.
Plus, I've been wearing it for a month. It's kinda gross, and not exactly washable, especially not with all the stuff attached to it.
So I think I'm going to spruce it up (there are some bits that got a little worn) and hang it on my wall. Perhaps I'll use it in a costume next Halloween. Meantime, I'm just trying to get through the week. I got a refill on my pain meds, I'm in PT today and at the chiropractor on Thursday, and I'm recovering from a very expensive month involving a lot of taxi fares. It helps that Lulu just transferred my first revenues into my PayPal account. Almost $300, right when I need it -- nice to see. :)
I feel weird, not having written anything really substantive in a month and a half, but I'm reaching the point where I can start again. I'm getting my ducks in a row as it were, making sure loose ends are tied up and that things are going to tick over if I suddenly drop down into the writing obsessively, as I tend to do. It'll help once I'm not spending every other evening at a doctor's office...
