Ah, the hangover. You youths, enjoy it while you can; I never had one until I was twenty-six or twenty-seven, and now I can hardly have a beer without feeling sick. Still, a strong dose of naproxen killed the headache, and greasy food does the rest. :D

Today is a day for lounging and a few chores -- PeaPod's coming, and I have dishes to do, but otherwise I'm mostly basking in laziness. I have updated Valet of Anize, with the end of chapter two and the start of chapter three, in which Carry attends a meeting, prepares lunch, and makes friends. I have to admit that while Michelle the baker isn't intended to be a major character, I really like her.

Time to work through my backlog of emails some more...
A while ago -- quite a while ago -- I posted a Winter Mix of wintery and Christmasy songs, and oddly enough not only did I just have someone requesting it, but I also just had someone who still has the mix (I don't) and offered to reup it for me. I love when coincidences happen. :D

So, here's the original tracklist for the Winter Mix, and here's a megaupload file of the mix itself. Christmas in August -- enjoy!

On a very different note, [livejournal.com profile] light_nin_bug brought The Magician to my attention yesterday. It's by an author named Lev Grossman and the back of the book reads "The Magician is to Harry Potter as a shot of Irish whiskey is to a glass of weak tea." For that alone I'd like to have a look at it, but the reason she emailed me was the following passage:

They were sitting on the cool stone rim of the fountain known as Sammy, a knockoff of the Laocoon in Rome, serpents strangling the renegade priest and his sons, but with water cheerfully squirting out of everybody's mouths. -- p. 195

While I suspect it's a coincidence (and a really cool if macabre fountain, to boot) naming a fountain of Laocoon "Sammy" is a little amusing given my own link to Laocoon's Children, which in turn has strong links to Harry Potter. As far as I'm aware I don't know Lev Grossman -- I just checked his Wiki and he sounds really cool, so I can't say I'd object if I did -- but I thought I'd post and see if he's reading, and if that link is more than coincidence.

If you are reading, Mr. Grossman, give a wave! I'm going to check out your book in the very near future. :D
You know what I did today?

NOTHING, THAT'S RIGHT. And proud of it.

Also, no Lev Grossman sightings yet. Shucks.

I did beta-read a fic for [livejournal.com profile] spiderine that -- well. Not my thing. At all. Pretty much the opposite of my thing. But that having been said, I can see the quality of the writing behind the subject matter, and those of you who are into heavy kink may find it right up your street. It also stars Martha Jones and John Hart, who don't get much playtime in the fandom.

It's called Dirty Work, and I strongly, strongly suggest you read the header and highlight the spoiler in the disclaimer before reading. But once you do, if you decide to read onwards, enjoy!

And if deeply kinky sex isn't your thing, allow me to link you to some Doctor Who cakes. Nothing bad ever happens in the world of Doctor Who cakes.
