I know a lot of people who work in and around the building I work in, mostly the service people: security checks with BossBoss if they don't see me in the mornings, the bike messengers mostly know me (I think I'm engaged in a long-term flirtation with one of them, but I'm not entirely sure), the engineers say hi when we pass in the lobby.

I also know all of the regular non-postal-service delivery guys -- DHL, FedEx, and UPS. They're good guys for the most part, always helpful if a package has gone astray, and we get on well.

The UPS guy in particular is friendly, polite, and diligent, but oh my god, he smells. He smells so bad. It lingers after he's gone. The best I can describe it is "sweaty rotting peppercorns" but I'm not sure that fully conveys just how bad this guy smells. I don't have an especially sensitive nose but I have to breathe through my mouth while I sign for packages and I cringe every time someone says "Oh, UPS is coming by to pick this up" because it's not fair to inflict that smell on me more than once a day.

He smells worse than the particular subset of bike messengers who are in their chosen career because there's no bathing requirement. I didn't think it was possible to smell worse than the bike messengers.

The thing is, he's a nice guy, he does a good job. I don't want to get him in trouble with anyone for smelling bad. But I feel like someone he works with should be aware of the Smell, because someone needs to have a talk with him about it. And I am no way paid enough to be telling the UPS guy that plants wither when he walks past.

My office boy dilemmas, let me show you them.
