You guys really have to start waiting for the morning of my birthday in my time zone to wish me a happy birthday, or all the happy returns will be on a post about how much I enjoy watching Merlin, and I'm thirty one years old. :D

But thank you to those who have, it is much appreciated. And anyone else who's dropping by for cake, please feel free to leave birthday wishes here, where I sound marginally more grown up.

Ruminations upon getting older will have to wait until I've had breakfast. I suspect this is going to be one of those unexpectedly difficult birthdays like 26, where you'd think the year before would have been harder but was actually a breeze.
Radio Free Monday does not stop for birthdays! Below please find links to things what may interest you. We have bears, ice cream, strolling, strolling performers, surveys, and Places To Start. Enjoy. :)

[livejournal.com profile] juniper200 reminds me that Project Teddy Bear is auctioning off bears with celebrity autographs. The stars with bears span many fandoms, including White Collar, Eureka, and Torchwood. Check out the bears!

[livejournal.com profile] jonaht let me know that Cold Stone Creamery is raising funds for the Make A Wish foundation; you can buy a one-dollar star to donate to the fund, and on September 30th they're giving away free samples of Katie's Creation (a Make A Wish wish!) from 5-8pm.

On October 2nd, one of our own, Amber, is walking in Light the Night, which is a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Her goal is to raise $2500, and she's currently at just over a thousand using a technique similar to the Two For Non campaign: simply asking people to donate a dollar, because every little bit helps. Now, that said, she's told me that $25 allows families to get free informational literature to help with care management and $50 allows LLS to provide trained emotional support for families.

[livejournal.com profile] cluegirl is looking for street performers for Strowlercon -- jugglers, magicians, comedians, acrobats, firespinners, and all kinds of performance are welcome. She needs acts that can perform the weekend of October 8th in Boston; you can find the details here. Even if you don't perform, you should check Strowlercon out if you're local, it sounds like a hoot and a half.

In the comments to last week's RFM, [livejournal.com profile] evilstorm linked to an awareness-raising article on honour killings of women. A very important reply to this article was, "What do we do?" Which is a damn good question, and one I didn't have a complete answer to. If you read the article and are wondering how to help, a lovely anon on the post linked to Equality Now where you can get more information.

[livejournal.com profile] elucreh notified me last week in comments that [livejournal.com profile] lyo is doing a survey on women in fic and folklore, and would love it if people could take a minute to answer a few questions. The survey post is here.

This has been Radio Free Monday. Thanks everyone!
Title: Jeffrey Nullier's "Man With Fedora"
Rating: PG (Language)
Warnings: None.
Summary: A routine investigation into an art theft turns up Neal's fingerprints on a stolen painting. Neal swears he's never stolen a Nullier painting, but that's only half the truth...

Part One: Who Framed Neal Caffrey?
Part Two: Portrait Of The Artist As A Con Man
At this point I'm never going to get around to ruminating on getting older.

Gee, what a tragedy. :P

In the meantime, kids, I have a fanfic for you!

I keep wanting to sit down and write about this stuff, and then I keep thinking, do I really want to? I don't know.

Thirty-one feels bigger than thirty, I think because thirty's a milestone but everyone acknowledges it's a milestone and mostly in this culture we also acknowledge that most socially-forced milestones are kind of bullshit. Nobody I knew in high school felt grown up when they got their driver's licence; everyone I knew in college didn't feel grown up until they had to make their first car insurance payment. It's the gritty little pieces of life that make you re-evaluate the whole. At least, for me.

And then I had a minor identity crisis in the shower this morning. )
