I didn't do any origami yesterday, so this morning I sat down and thought, I will do something complicated today, to make up for it!

I honestly don't know why I say these things.

Anyway, I ended up folding a crocodile, or as Origami Club puts it, a corocodile. (I like their spelling better.) I'm linking to the front page rather than the instruction page so that you can consult the animation, since once again I'm pretty sure you have to actually do magic to fold his legs.

His leg is crooked because he's crawling forward, shut up.

I put some photos behind the cut, too, so as not to blast you in the face with a disembodied alligator head first thing Saturday morning. Don't say you weren't warned. No, seriously.

Corocodile and Headley. )
A photo post! I might even make this a habit again.

Icons per usual; credit is nice but not required. Teasers:

The rest are under this cut. )

Some of those icons are, visibly, from a manip I did. Peter likes Vikings, god dammit.

So, Chicago does these weird Public Art Installation things occasionally, where they choose some theme and have artists decorate large models to display around downtown. About ten years ago it was cows; three years ago it was globes. This winter apparently it's hearts, for Valentine's Day and to raise awareness about heart disease.

Instead, a lot of Michigan Avenue businesses seem to be raising awareness about themselves. Outside the North Bridge shopping mall, there's one adorned with the mall's logo; at Pioneer Plaza, just outside the local NBC news station (visible in the background) there's the famous peacock.

On the other hand, some of the hearts are...more inscrutable. (She stares at me every day when I walk to work. Well, one of her eyes does.)

This week Chicago also held a blizzard. Here's what it looked like Tuesday night, and again Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, this was my path to the train, complete with buried bicycles.

This is Pioneer Plaza again; you can see where the snow has been cleared away, and where the unplowed drifts have piled up.
A quick reminder -- the felted critters and character bears that Shadow and Kath are auctioning for Queensland Relief are still up for auction, though the bids will close on Monday (which, given it's Australia time, is...early...tomorrow...American, at some point. I can't even do the math, but soon, anyway). The bears are modeled after characters from Nameless, Charitable Getting, and Dead Isle, and every time I remember that I grin like an idiot.

If you've bid, make sure you check and see if you're still the high bidder -- and if you haven't bid, go over and have a look at the adorable bears anyway. :D
I went outside. On a Saturday night. To a bar!

I know, who is this man and what has he done with Sam?

Well, R had a gig, and I haven't seen him in about a month. Having a platonic lifemate is hard work, you guys. I thought maybe he was pissed at me because I flake out on his gigs, but no, it turns out January is a busy time for the blues and his star is rising. I don't know, I'm just a messenger.

But I got to see him and hang out with some of his musician friends, and we had beer and skittles. Literally, Skittles. Like, the fruit candy. And we made a date for Monday, he's coming to my place for waffles and Wheel of Fortune, it should be epic.

For those of you just joining us, R is a fantastic harmonica player and all round bluesman, my ex-roommate and closest friend in Chicago, and the guy whose mother once hid my cheese grater from me. The "conversations with r" tag will fill you in.
