Oh god I have been working on this story forever. FOR EVER. Or at least for a good six months, which is ridiculous since it's only about four thousand words long.

And it's finally done, and I must get it off my gdocs.

One interesting thing, though, about working on this story combined with both the original and revamped Trace, and Nameless further back, is that I seem to have chosen a genre. Usually I kind of think, well, genre, I can write in pretty much any genre competently if not superbly, I'll just bounce around and see what's fun this week. But clearly I have a bent towards magical realism, and the more I write it the more fun I have with it (the above moaning about this story notwithstanding).

I should probably read more in the genre. Bless Me Ultima and Like Water For Chocolate and My Life With The Wave probably aren't going to last me forever.
Man, like a million things happened today which due to various reasons I can't even blog about, but I am very glad the day is over.

Randy sent me an alert that couldn't wait until Radio Free Monday, so I'm passin' it on, for Illinois folks in particular: Illinois conservatives have introduced an amendment to a bill (for the assistance of the blind, classy) that allows adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples during the adoption process, and religious aid institutions to discriminate against anyone, for any "religiously motivated" reason. This bill goes to a vote tomorrow, so it's important to protest it now. You can find more information here.

I'm off to have dinner. There shall be origami later!
Aaaaand then I fell asleep. Well, like I said, long day. But that will not stop me from sharing with you my awesome parrot.

I've named him Harrod.

Most of the simpler bird designs are pretty unsatisfying because they contain a lot of "fold X behind Y" which requires very little skill. Harrod there was a series of hood or "outside reverse" folds, and those can be tricky at the best of times but especially when the whole figure wants to unfold in order to make the magic happen. At one point I think Harrod's wings briefly fell off.

ZOMBIE PARROT.

But he turned out all right in the end, and that's what matters.
