Omg wtf daily origami!

Almost!

Yesterday's fold from the calendar was a "Beach Rose", which is neat, except for -- you know how some origami figures, there's a "Do some magic" step? The Beach Rose, once you get to step seven, is just one continuous "Do some magic". My first two came out sadly deformed, but I think it gives them character!

Today, however. TODAY I BUILT NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL.

And then took a picture of it sitting on the case for my day-planner. That's right, I rock flying buttresses and a day-planner.

A good friend of mine is in France at the present, and sent me the Cathedral because it was the closest thing to origami she could find. I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. I should have take some pictures of it disassembled, because it was all flat paper when I got it, but I was too busy going OMG BUILDING STUFF NOW.

There was, as the website says, "No cutting or gluing required!" but there was a bit of taping. Just on the spire! Otherwise it wanted to be a tube.

All the other admins are very impressed with it.
I decided to mess around on Lulu this evening. The prerogative of the self-published author -- I can do what I want when I want...

I didn't really do anything much, though, other than updating the header. Lulu has this new "Buy It Now!" thing, where you can put a buy-it button under the title of your book or whatnot, so I went through theoriginalsam and put buttons in places I felt were apt. I thought about putting them on the blog, too, but they messed up the Octogenarian Lawyer aesthetic I've got going. Checked my sales stats for Lucky Book, which is not selling that well; eh, you win some, you lose some, and I'm not fussed. That one was a labour of love (and prescription medication).

I think it does point up how the sense of ownership on the part of the readers can affect whether they're interested in purchasing. Granted there are a lot of variables -- it's a visual book rather than a textual one, and at once both smaller and more expensive than some -- but I think it's telling that the book you guys didn't help write is not as sought-after; of course it's not, because it has less meaning for you.

It's all one great experiment, really. Every new book is an adventure. Which is as it should be.

I'm in the last major edit for Trace, as well. It'll be a while in the works, and I'm still not sure of a release date; I'd like to aim earlier, but there is a certain charm to releasing it on November first. For one thing that's when CG was released last year, and for another it's Dia De Los Muertos, which seems apt.

I did want to share the cover with you all, though; I've stepped away from the "imprint" cover I normally do, because Trace seemed to need it. I love the image I found for it, and I'm pretty pleased with the overall look. It'll have some tweaks before the final version, but it's basically complete. You can check out the prelim front cover here.

These last few days have been pretty hectic, between new job applications and interviews, not to mention filling in for some of BossBoss's duties. In some ways it's good; now that I have basically nobody to veto me, I can get stuff done that I couldn't when I had to wait on his decision. The Big Book, which has never been fully complete, is now closer than ever; I have to do a writeup on "How to buy coffee" (ironic that it's the last thing in the book, I know) and then proof it, but then it's done.

At least until a policy change...
You guys, I think Sam's Three Things might be on hold because of how White Collar is taunting me with a slow download. According to the tracker, I will be able to give you Three Things...sometime between 5pm on Thursday and 8am on Friday.

Also I looked at the ten-day forecast for Chicago and the heat is never going to end, so apparently I need to move to Siberia. That might cause some delay too.
