Sep. 22nd, 2011 11:38 amOH THIS DAY.
So, my flashdrive case carries two flashdrives: one that I use to ferry large files like movies back and forth, the other which contains basically My Life on it: the latest edition of Trace, fanfics in progress that I haven't moved to Gdocs, et cetera. Normally I have backups of everything, and normally there's nothing in any way revealing, but because I'm migrating computers, I added the following things yesterday without backing them up:
-- my calendar spreadsheet
-- my password spreadsheet
-- several work documents I use regularly
And when I got home last night, I couldn't find my flashdrive case in my messenger bag.
I was 99% sure I'd left it at work, but I also thought it might have fallen out of my bag when I took my book out to read on the train. Which would have been a nightmare of password changes and praying someone unscrupulous didn't pick it up. But I figured I'd get some sleep, get up early, come in early to see if it was on my desk.
This morning I came in early. It wasn't on my desk.
Fortunately I had a thought, and I went down to the 18th floor where my new cubicle is, in case it might be there. Sure enough, my dumb ass absentmindedly packed the case into a bin of stuff I was taking to my new cube, and there it was. I just about passed out from relief.
And now my password spreadsheet has been password protected.
On top of that early morning drama, I've spent the day so far training my replacement, who is cute as a button and had very smart question to ask. I also had to give someone a lesson in how to register ID cards with security, not because they're going to be doing it but because Overboss confuses easily.
AND THEN THEY BROUGHT ME THE IPHONE. The long-promised iPhone! It's a 4, and it's so shiny, and the touchscreen responds in realtime instead of several second after, like my Eris. So now I have to refamiliarise myself with the iPhone way of doing things, and see if I can find out if it's possible yet to upload music without having to do it throught iTunes, because iTunes makes my soul hurt.
PLEASE TO NOTE: Last ever usage of the Ninja Officeboy icon! The next post I will make about work will be all about transitioning and use the Corporate Samurai one.
I've been issued my weapon, after all...
