MY LUNCH WINS.
There's been a lot of conflict in the office today -- lots of politics, none of which involve me, but I still get a bit nervous. There's a situation, I'm not sure if I've talked about it, where one colleague (female) got promoted over the other two (male) and one of the men has been deeply unhappy about this, to the point of harassment, or so I'm told. I haven't seen the emails. Anyway, it's reached the point where they moved her out of her cubicle and into the one next to mine to get her away from him. And that's fine by me, I like her.
Except that one of our other folks apparently isn't aware of the Situation, and spent half an hour (while the woman who was moved was in a meeting with HR about the situation) talking about how strange it is that she moved cubicles, and why would they do that, and what's going on, and we're all sitting there trying gently to talk her out of continuing to talk about it...
Anyway, between that and this huge urgent database project, it's tense. My boss came up to me and said, "So, have we convinced you that you totally made the right choice to join us?" and I was all LOL, BUT I LOVE RESEARCH. And I do, I really like it here despite that stuff.
BUT THEN: LUNCH. Our little mini fandom-cadre went out to the Secret Food Court and got sandwiches from Hanna's Bretzel, which is pricey but
amazing, and I had a grass-fed
sirloin beef and gruyere sandwich with caramelized onions, all on a pretzel roll, with salt and pepper potato chips. It was amazing. And apt, since it is National Sandwich Day apparently.
It was the best lunch. I am full of sirloin and joy.
