I wasn't sure where to put this little gem of a news item in RFM, so I thought I'd save it for a Cheaper World -- Stephanie (sorry, I don't know your LJ handle!) linked me to a story about a Groupon Horror: a small bakery offered a really good Groupon deal and ended up having to make a hundred thousand cupcakes. It's terrible and absurd, but kind of epic.

Apparently Dreamwidth isn't propagating properly to LJ this morning, so rather than recode all the Dreamwidth-specific coding I did on RFM, I'm just gonna link y'alls over that way:

Boss: I'm going to go unpack some boxes. And I'm turning my music up really loud so I'm going to close my door, but tell people if they need me they can come in.
Podmate: It's an unpacking party!
Sam: Box rave in Boss's office.
Podmate: That's like the really exciting version of a square dance!

One of my ducklings asked me if I could get one of those stands you put next to your computer monitor and put paper on so you can type from the paper with it sitting upright. For reference, these are called "copy stands", but when I started looking I didn't know they had an actual name (much like the doodads you use to divide your groceries from someone else's on the conveyor belt at the grocery store) so I tried many combinations. The search terms "paper stand" turned up only one result at Target.

This is the result.

Now, I'd like to draw your attention to a few specific aspects of this paper holder. Firstly, while you may ask yourself why that dude is not wearing a shirt, I propose that he is. Why? Because he has a waistcoat, a bow tie, and most importantly he has sleeve cuffs. So apparently he's wearing the Victorian equivalent of a belly shirt under his waistcoat.

Also I'd like to point out that this paper holder is filed under Kids Bath on the website. I'm sure what every child wants is that looking them in the face while they're learning to use the potty. It would certainly scare the shit right out of me.

I can't believe I did this.

On commission from a friend of the Cafe, I went to CVS and gathered up all the wee Vaders and Stormtroopers and stood in line with a handful of them, trying to look all nonchalant, like it ain't no thing, just buying some Darth Vader chibidolls. I walked home with a sackful of the Dark Side, daring anyone who passed to make a remark.

For added hilarity, they make noise. If you push on Darth Vader's tummy, he breathes heavily. The stormtroopers yell WAITING FOR ORDERS SIR! if you push a button on their back.
