Dec. 5th, 2011 08:06 amGood morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday! I have a post about Charitable Solicitations all up in my head, but as I can't condense it into a blurb for you, we'll get to that later in the week, maybe. In the meantime, let's get started!
Ways To Give:
Anon let me know about Susan Tharp whose daughter is in fandom (but may not wish to be identified by her online handle). Susan is waiting for a heart transplant and has a fundraising page at HelpHopeLive to raise money for the surgery and for related expenses.
tea let me know about Hélène, who needs a double lung transplant. Her healthcare in Canada is free, but she needs financial assistance to travel to Toronto for access and support her mother, who is taking time off work (Hélène obviously can't work) to travel with her. You can read more and find a donation link here.
phi wanted to let folks know that if you're in Boston and looking to give this season, one place to support is the Pine Street Inn, a nondiscriminatory shelter which provides emergency housing, help finding long term housing, medical care, job training, addiction recovery programs, and employment opportunities to those in need. Part of their employment program is that they offer catering and repair/maintenance services.
Anon let me know about a call for help for a mother facing homelessness in Massachusetts. While their goal has been reached, clearly they're on unstable ground, and I'm sure donations would be appreciated.
windtear let me know about Project Cat's Holiday Miracle Time post (warning, images of injured cat at the link, but nothing too horribly graphic). It features two neglected and abandoned cats in Gilbert, Arizona, one of whom needs surgery and whose vet bills were already mounting. They're looking for donations but also for Forever Homes for the pair. There's a donation link at the post but you can also email flurije at gmail.com for more information.
Fans Helping Fans:
effex is looking for a room to rent in Chicago from January to March this coming year. Chicagowan cafe members, anyone need a renter?
News To Know:
the_rainbow_jen let me know that the Chicago Public Library system is looking for local female visual artists to exhibit in neighborhood libraries across the city for Women's History Month in March 2012.

cluegirl's excellent roundup of information on the Salvation Army, including the "Three Dollar Bill" that can be placed in red kettles to inform the Army that they could have had a dollar, if they held different policies. A reminder: international branches of the Salvation Army may act differently from each other -- I'm informed that Salvation Army Canada has a strong anti-discrimination policy, so if you're not in the US, remember to investigate before you act!
This is a bit of a Caveat situation -- I haven't been able to research it, so take with a grain of salt.
madripoor_rose linked me to a post about Purina pet food possibly making pets sick. Insect infestations in bagged food may be a petstore problem and not a production problem, but if your pet is sick and eating Purina, you may want to examine this as a potential contributing factor (if your pet is sick, however, you should also have it examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible). It has been suggested that the soy content of the food may be responsible.
Just for Fun:
gaaak asked if we knew of a Keep Calm generator, and
madripoor_rose provided!

This is one of the most awesome cosplays I've ever seen: Daria And Jane.
As many people who know my love of papercraft have informed me, the Library Sculptor has left her last sculpture and her last letter; you can see the final few sculptures here.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help. Remember, non-embedded links are love.
