Dec. 16th, 2011 03:20 pmOhhhh my god company holiday luncheon. That was awesome.
For one thing, this luncheon cracked me up because we're insular little gangs, at my work -- people tend to stick with their coworkers, but I know everyone because I worked three years at the front desk. So I'm moving around the room all HI EVERYONE GOOD TO SEE YOU! and everyone's like HOW DO YOU KNOW THOSE PEOPLE OVER THERE, I'VE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE and it was kind of lovely to be, apparently, the popular kid.
Then we sat down to lunch, which was amazing. The entree was panko fried chicken and rice, which I was sad about because no chicken for Sam, but then one of my coworkers said "Order the vegetarian option!" so I did, expecting lots of vegetables, BUT NO.
Mushroom-stuffed crepes in a sweet wine sauce, topped with chevre creme fraiche. IT WAS AMAZING. Other Sam (we tend to sit together because it makes us laugh) was like, damn, I should have ordered that.
And then I won a fruitcake in a raffle.
Now, here's the thing. About a month ago there was an all-staff meeting I couldn't attend because I was hosting a webinar (I KNOW) and apparently at that meeting, they mentioned my change of job, and I got an absentee standing ovation. Fair enough. But when they called my name for the fruitcake, I got up to accept my prize and STANDING OVATION AGAIN.
I feel loved. And very full of mushroom-stuffed crepe.
And now I have a fruitcake!
