Jan. 31st, 2012 09:38 pmAugh, I did it again, the thing where I don't post all day. To be fair, I am whittling the fuck out of my to-do list, it's going to be something decorative and folksy when I'm done with it.
I haven't been eating right for the past few days -- don't worry, I'm fixing it, the groceries arrive on Thursday -- but it's starting to show. This morning I misread "crude oil futures rising" as "creole futures rising" and was all FUCK YES, CREOLE! Where do I invest in Creole futures?
Also one of my coworkers said, of someone she's researching, "He had this big picture of a naked woman in his bedroom" and I heard it as "He had this big picture of a bacon woman in his bedroom". Here's my question: Which is more unsettling?
Anyway, on the positive end of things, I am now about 2/3 of the way through Dead Isle rewrites, which is faster than I thought it would go. Dead Isle is weird because I wrote it after Nameless but before Trace, and it has less complex relationship construction than Charitable Getting, so...it doesn't have the relatively high suck factor that the original Nameless draft did, it's not as difficult to dissect as CG, and it doesn't require as much finesse as Trace because it's not based on a fanfic. (Technically it is, since Jack Baker came from a Heroes fanfic, but as he was an OC it's 99% irrelevant.)
It's just easy, so much easier than previous. Especially considering I wrote a fair segment of it while on painkillers for a broken arm. The Australia section is not necessarily going to be simple, but I'm going in with confidence after having stitched up everything else, so there's that. I think also it will be much easier to keep some perspective on Australia while I am not a) madly researching the history of European colonisation there and b) watching my family rip itself apart over my brother's decision to move to Australia.
It occurs to me that December of 2007 was not kind to me.
At any rate, I'm in a good place now and so is the book, so it's all one.
