So, I'm not sure if someone recommended Richard Stark's "The Hunter" to me -- I track who reccs things now, but I didn't do that when I first kept my reading list -- and anyway, I'm kind of hoping nobody did, because wow. That is a truly, truly terrible work of pulp. I got thirty pages into it and just couldn't do it anymore.

But! I know [livejournal.com profile] la_rainette recommended Max Barry's "Company" to me, and I did thoroughly enjoy that.

Spoilers for Company )

Final Verdict: Run away from Richard Stark's work as fast as you can! But Company by Max Barry is a really fun book, especially for people who work in the cubicle farm.
Hey, do you guys remember when I used to talk about leprosy? Good times.

(It wasn't actually leprosy, and as it turned out like half my grad school colleagues also had it, because theatres are a mire of virulent disease. Just, belated FYI. Point being, disgusting personal medical conditions are a-ok on this journal!)

I have had a twitch in my eyelid for two solid weeks. Two weeks. I keep rubbing at it and interrupting myself when I talk because it distracts me. And two weeks, that's a long time for a muscle twitch to last, so finally I googled it, hoping it was something exotic and interesting. Not parasite or brain condition exotic, mind you.

Turns out, along with the most disturbing animation I've seen in some time, Google told me that eyelid twitches are caused by stress, sleep deprivation, eyestrain, alcohol, caffeine, hemifacial spasm condition, or nutritional imbalances. Frankly I always thought I'd get scurvy first.

Since it's been weeks since I had a drink and possibly years since I had enough caffeine to actually register as caffeine, and I'm ruling out hemifacial spasms as too exotic, I'm going with stress and sleep dep, and spending the weekend asleep.

Eventually. That twitching eye animation is going to keep me up for a while.
