Mar. 23rd, 2012 05:52 pmRadio silence broken!
It's been an intense week, is my only excuse. Breaking in my new boss, starting up some new systems at work ("Look! I have forms for everything!" is rarely met with such enthusiasm) and up to my elbows in Dead Isle, time's been passing quickly.
I'm not quite ready for the next pass on Dead Isle yet, but I went through today and rechaptered it. It dropped from 44 chapters to 25, mostly because the last half of the book had really short ones. As usual, when rewriting, I ended up with bad numbering -- I skipped several chapter numbers all over the place but also ended up with four chapter sixes, which is a record even for me. I really like chapter six, I guess.
One of them came after chapter seven.
Setting deadlines has been good for me, I suppose. It helps me focus on one thing at a time. Though given I've come in a bit under schedule with Dead Isle, I'm considering picking up a new challenge for April -- there's a call out for an anthology of romance/erotic fiction with a historical Rome theme, and I'm considering expanding the old Brutus/Cassius I wrote and submitting it. Can I get from 1K to 25K words in a month and a half? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
MAYBE!
I think I still have my biography of Brutus around here somewhere -- I know I have The Twelve Caesars -- and I can see my History Of The Roman People and Everyday Lives of the Greeks And Romans on my bookshelf. Might be fun to crack the books again. Besides, how many times in my life will I be able to legitimately engage in fiction that references apotropaic penis murals? How many people can say they have a penis painted on their house with the caption "If you rob this place I will bugger you to death!"
Those ancient Romans: they knew about poetry, motherfucker.
