Me: So what are your impressions of the new interview candidate? I won't get to sit in on the team interview this afternoon.
Cranky Coworker: I don't think she really wants this job, she just wants a job with this company.
Awkward Coworker: Also, like, we asked her -- you know how most of us spend out time doing research alone at our desks?
Cranky Coworker: She said she did a lot of socializing in her old job, which is why we mentioned it. And when we did she made this...face.
Awkward Coworker: And said, oh, I guess I can do that.
Me: Wow. Not really what we're looking for.
Cranky Coworker: No.
Me: We want someone who hears they get to spend the whole day alone and like, their eyes light up.
Awkward Coworker: Yes! Exactly!
Me: She did seem kind of awkward when I was walking her down to the interview.
Awkward Coworker: But not the good awkward!
Me: No, exactly! Not like us. Because, okay, we...we're the most sociable gang of loners I've ever met.
Awkward Coworker: We are some well-adjusted introverts up in here.

It strikes me that while I still have a number of awkward encounters with Awkward Coworker on a daily basis (viz yesterday, when he was halfway through saying hello to me and had to stop because he was startled by window-washers) we really do manage to be coherent together most of the time now.
