Good morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday! THE MOST HUMID RADIO FREE MONDAY EVER. God damn, I didn't even get a real winter, what did I do to deserve this summer...

Ways To Give:

[livejournal.com profile] linnet_melody linked to the Moonridge Animal Park, which is supported by Garett Mggart (aka Blair from The Sentinel). Each year, Sentinel fandom holds an online auction to raise money for the park. This year the auction begins in about six weeks and participation is down, so they're looking to drum up more interest. Links and FAQs and a history of how this got started is here.

[livjournal.com profile] bluejeans07 posted on twitter about "A Buck For Jack": if you go to see the Avengers, consider donating a dollar in memory of Jack Kirby, to support the Jack Kirby Museum.

[livejournal.com profile] idancewithlife linked to a Kickstarter to produce a documentary about YA fantasy writer Lloyd Alexander. I have to say I love this -- Lloyd Alexander wrote "Time Cat", which was one of my absolute favourite books when I was a child. If you have kids, it's a great, educational, surreal, enchanting read about a boy and his time-traveling cat. It got me into Egyptian mythology and permanently endeared Leonardo da Vinci to me.

[livejournal.com profile] moyakite is Kickstarting a fantasy series she's been working on for some time; you can check out her Kickstarter here and have a look at the lengthy sample she's posted.

Eric, a teacher, musician, and writer in Massachusetts, is working on a project called 49 Open Mics. He plans to drive cross-country, performing at one open mic in every continental state and in DC, blogging about his experiences as he goes. He's got a Kickstarter running (closing May 14th) to raise money for gas and food.

Fans Helping Fans:

[livejournal.com profile] theadaze is looking for advice on study and work opportunities in the visual arts, or advice on how to find them; she's also taking art commissions, and you can find more info about both here.

Marion is offering proofreading services to help support herself and her mum, who is having medical problems; you can find her rates and how to contact her here.

News To Know:

[personal profile] dytabytes linked to the Guardian Hot Key Books Young Writer's Prize. The contest is looking for new, unpublished writers between the ages of 18 and 25 who write YA fiction. Winners will be given the chance to be published by Hot Key Books. I know we have some promising young writers on the cafe, so check it out!

Just For Fun:

[livejournal.com profile] rabidfangurl let me know that MARILYN IS NO MORE. (Well, she was still there this morning but she's leaving soon!)

[livejournal.com profile] 51stcenturyfox let me have a preview of her awesome John Hart vid, Gin-Soaked Boy, and now the whole thing is up for public viewing!

WendyInFutures over on Wordpress linked me to an awesome article about the "Great Auroral Storm" of 1859, where telegraph operators could run their machines without batteries due to the intense solar energy from the flare. (Their conversation is PRICELESS.)

Annette linked to a mosaic of cupcakes. Cupcake mosaic!

[personal profile] sethrak linked me to a story about a book conservation tech who found a Paul Revere engraving. The actual story is awesome, and perhaps it's just me, but the way in which it's written creeps me out, fair warning. Still, if you can bypass that, it's a neat tale.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
Work may sometimes frustrate me, but I have to admit it has its balances. My weekly check-in with my boss was this morning and the first words out of her mouth were "Did you see Avengers?"

Mind you, she watched it mainly because she has a gigantic crush on the actor who plays Thor, but still. There's a certain lack of shame in this office I find refreshing. We've spent most of the morning sending each other pictures of zeppelins (don't ask).

Speaking of, Dead Isle Chapter Eighteen is posted. Everybody cheer!

I keep forgetting there are only 26 chapters now and not 44. We're going to be done relatively soon, which will be nice, because all I do at the moment is work, fix Dead Isle, and listlessly watch frivolous television.
