Jun. 25th, 2012 07:47 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Before we get started, I want to remind everyone that even if you can't offer advice, can't give, or can't give as much as you'd like, you can still help. Feel free to link to Radio Free Monday or to reblog items of special interest to you. Word of mouth is more powerful than ever, and you can be a part of that.
Ways To Give:
whereupon is in increasingly critical medical/financial straits in Houston, TX, and is looking for employment, doctor recommendations, or financial help so that she doesn't have to return to an abusive home situation. You can read more here, including information on donating.
mamculuna let me know about a post regarding the large homeless population in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the fundraising effort to help the local Delonis Shelter continue with and expand their services to people in need.
waldo is between jobs at the moment and without a paycheck; she's trying to stay afloat through August with her Etsy shop, where you can buy bath bombs, soap, recycled crayons, vegan soy candles, and other fun stuff. (My personal favourite is the skull and crossbones soap.)
catlinye_maker linked to an indiegogo page for Drew Hoyt, who has been admitted to the Boston Conservatory to study musical theater but due to his family's financial situation isn't able to afford tuition or secure sufficient loans.
ryanleeds needs help finding a place to a his dog in the LA or Iowa City area, and financial help to pay a pet deposit or for low-cost boarding. You can read more here.
supertailz linked me to the Help Heal Ruby blog, raising money to cover vet bills for Ruby the Basset/Doxie's emergency surgery. Check out the blog as a whole -- Ruby is adorable.
georginasand linked me to a fundraiser to send the theatre group the Amber Bastards to this year's Kansas City Fringe Festival to perform the one-act play entitled Winter House, about a freshly-married couple moving into their new home.
Venturous let me know that Playwright Bob Bartlett is raising funds to get his play Bareback Ink to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival. The play evolved out of his own experience getting ink in memory of his brother.
Fans Helping Fans:
metonymy is looking for a roommate to rent the other room in their apartment in the Boston area, starting in late August. Cat-friendly, fan-friendly, queer-friendly, and you can read more about the apartment here.
Give For Free:
ReflectiveBookworm has a post up asking for advice on being a Blogging Noob, how to build a readership, and how to avoid blogging faux pas.
Anon linked to a grant vote that Better World Books is running, where people on facebook can vote for who should get the grant money that Better World Books is offering.
News To Know:
I know (and so does everyone else) that I have a personal grudge against the Salvation Army, but really, when the organisation fosters attitudes like this, they make it really easy to hold that grudge.
kallaneboi linked to a fascinating story about the way paper is used in prison, and the way controlling that use can control and infringe upon prisoner rights.
madripoor_rose let me know about the Arctic Ready site, a spoof site Greenpeace put up that mocks Shell Oil's stance on arctic drilling.
Just For Fun:
This is an awesome video about the journeys of a New York pizza deliveryman on a Friday night, as well as the chain of supply that supports his shop and the international trade that supports the supply chain.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
