Jul. 10th, 2012 01:05 pmI saw the Star Trek reboot film last night for the first time. Never has "live long and prosper" sounded so much like "fuck all y'all". Haters to the left, Spock's comin' through.
I didn't understand a majority of what was going on, but the rest of it was Simon Pegg as Scotty, so that's all right. (There is a bit in the middle of the film that pauses in a snow cave to explain the movie, but Leonard Nimoy has a really soothing voice and I stopped paying attention to what he was saying.) I would watch a full film of Simon Pegg running around with a scottish accent doing hilarious sciencey things. Someone get on that. (Preferably Simon Pegg.)
I heard this morning that Chumbawamba is breaking up, which is very sad, as they are pretty much the only band I've ever had any emotional investment in. Laugh if you want, I'm invested in the Tubthumping band, but they were political activists who wrote songs like Walking Into Battle With The Lord and The Untraditional. They also did a nice cover of The Clash's Bankrobber (and yes, that vid is mine.)
On the other hand they appear to be breaking up in order to do more political activism, so I suppose that's a good thing.
I also did a quick writing blog post this morning, Evidence and Work. Guaranteed to be 100% free of science fiction films and pop music, though it does contain an eccentric Latvian.
