Aug. 6th, 2012 07:46 amGood morning everyone! It's still summer. Can it be winter now? I miss winter.
It's also time for Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
Anon linked me to fundraising info for Andy Mrotek, a musician who was viciously attacked last week and is undergoing a lot of medical treatment to recover. There is a StageIt benefit being aired for him, pay-what-you-can for tickets, and he's selling artwork here. You can read more about his attack at his twitter which also has fundraising information, or paypal Butcherprints@gmail.com for donations.
girly_curl_3 linked me to a fundraiser for a friend who is living with MS and has a complication called CCSVI that has dramatically decreased her quality of life. Her situation could be improved by a surgical procedure that her insurance won't cover.
ginmar linked me to a call for help for
adelheide, who is slammed with vet bills for her kitty she had to have put down last week, which mean she won't be able to make her rent. You can read more here about how to help.
@Jaydeyn linked me to a call for donations for school fees to help get
girlingoldboots back to school to finish her degree.
tealin let me know that during last night's performance of the Independent Shakespeare Company's free Midsummer Night's Dream, someone stole the path lighting they use to light the audience's way back to the parking lot after the show. The ISC doesn't have a lot of funding as it is, and this is a significant additional burden. You can donate here to help them repurchase their supplies, and read more about their work at their Facebook.
888mph linked to a fundraiser for the Iberian Wolf Recovery Center, which needs to buy the land it's been using for twenty-five years in order to keep providing a safe sanctuary for its packs, which are made up of injured wolves unable to survive without protection.
ljgeoff linked me to a craigslist ad a friend posted, looking for a live-in caregiver in Hawaii.
ljgeoff has worked as John's caregiver before and is happy to answer questions people may have.
Help For Free:
venturous1 needs to raise funds "to keep up a wonderful rural retreat house near DC. Woodland serenity. Fan friendly! Seeking visitors and/or housemates, short or long term. Consider schedule a writing or artist retreat." You can email venturous1@gmail.com for pics and details.
yamx let me know that Kiva, which makes microloans to people in developing regions to help them become self-sustaining, has free trials at the moment. For no cost, you can lend $25 to someone trying to start a business or pay for schooling. There's a more detailed writeup here, as well.
Just For Fun:
jadey linked to The Quarry Whence Modern Names Are Hewn, an article on Puritan naming conventions which is way more interesting than I'm making it sound. :D
tealin linked me to an interesting article on Biblical Standards for Marriage and how they're being warped to serve homophobic ends. I always find arguing theology with hate groups pointless because the best argument is usually "We have separation of church and state in this country" but it's an interesting read nonetheless.
While doing research for a fic, I came across Diamond Dame's list of classic 30s and 40s cocktail recipes. It's a cool slice of history, but my favorite is the "Zombie" at the bottom of the post -- four types of rum as a "hangover cure".
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
