Good morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways To Give:

[livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles linked to an indigogo fundraiser to pay for reconstructive jaw surgery for Lydia Tillman, the survivor of a brutal rape and attempted murder. The surgery, which is a little unorthodox due to Lydia's other injuries, is not covered by medical insurance, so Lydia's family is raising the money themselves to pay for it.

[livejournal.com profile] doyoulikebread linked to a fellow fan who is offering art commissions to pay off some debts acquired in the course of moving.

Tir is facing a shortfall in a down payment on a house, due to misinformation about a grant they were promised and which never came through. They're raising money via Indiegogo to make up the $3K that would have come from the grant, and without which they can't meet the payment on the house.

[livejournal.com profile] venturous1 is moving and is selling off some fanart. You can check out a collection of Harry Potter and Sherlock themed oil paintings available for donation or shipping costs.

[livejournal.com profile] venturous1 also linked to a Kickstarter for singer-songwriter Lynn Hollyfield, who is raising money for recording costs; she's seven days from deadline with $4K of $10K left to raise. She's also offering a free song download here.

News To Know:

[livejournal.com profile] grey_bard has an iHome iPod speaker/radio going free to a good home if picked up in the NYC area, or for the price of shipping if elsewhere. They have more information in their comment post here.

[livejournal.com profile] lavenderspark let me know about Divine Gluten Free, a gluten-free recipe book a friend of hers just published.

Lorena tipped me off that a newly remastered cut of Lawrence of Arabia is going to be showing in theatres as a special event on October 4th. See if your nearby cinema is participating!

[livejournal.com profile] topgeargirl2 linked to the ALA's list of most frequently challenged books in 2011 and the CBLDF's list of frequently challenged comic books -- ie, print media most likely to be either banned or considered for censorship. I like to encourage people to read these and to talk about reading them, because if people realise ban attempts only encourage the reading of these books, they're one step closer to realising what an ignorant occupation attempting to ban books actually is.

Just For Fun:

[personal profile] jjhunter is hosting a Dreamwidth Friending Meme! If you're looking to add more mutual subscriptions to your circle, here is a space to advertise and connect.

[personal profile] kittydesade linked to some book covers along the lines of my Fuck Off I'm Reading idea and [livejournal.com profile] mint_green found some others; [personal profile] mad_martha found TOTE BAGS for same.

Rami linked me to a story about a stolen Renoir that's just...it's just so ART WORLD. The painting was bought at a flea market! It had been stolen! From a museum that didn't realise it even had it because it was on loan from a donor! WHO IS NOW DEAD.

Rua linked me to a fascinating article on the relationship between British English and American English.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
I am all about the links today. This is probably just as well; brickspace has been fighting me constantly. Even the elephantine printer-copier-scanner-fax failed this morning, and when I shut it down to restart it, it made the saddest, brokenest little beep IN THE WORLD. It's okay, copier! Don't be sad. Soon I will make you print many things.

It's Banned Books Week, and I have kicked off the celebration of anti-censorship by demanding somebody Ban My Fucking Book. Seriously. At least one of my published novels has a threesome in it. Ban me.

Ban me hard, baby.

Also, xistentialangst on Tumblr made a "book cover" for Lab Book, one of my Sherlock fics, and I thought as long as I was adding a link to the fic post I'd do a quick copy-paste over to AO3, so now Lab Book is up on AO3. It's the Christmassy one with John creeping out Harry's friends by deducing at them. Also gay sex, but I realise that doesn't narrow the field much.

I have to go buy winter clothes after work today. I love owning winter clothes; I wish they just appeared in my closet. Also then that would mean maybe my closet is secretly a TARDIS, and that would admittedly be awesome.
